I heard from Gary who races a boat over there they are a 350 verados. We can only hope that someday we may get to see production of something new.

I agree, the new mercury stern drive power plants have been great recently but it's time the outboard guys get a new high tech engine.

Common sense tells me that Merc has been working on a bigger, better, faster outboard/outboards. Looking forward to learning more about them once they come out!

How about someone other than Mercury! I'm tired of being repeatedly raped on gaskets and associated hardware. I would love to see another US based manufacturer produce something performance (85+) oriented. I have just about eliminated their parts from my 225s' sans block and intake and LU.

I have wondered why Yamaha doesn't try to make an outboard for the more high performance group. They currently have the SHO series that uses a 4.2 liter 4 stroke v6 and weighs the same as a 300xs. All they would have to do would be design a lower-unit that can handle the abuse. I'm pretty sure the 4.2 liter v6 could be tweaked to make power in the low to mid 300's.

Someone like illmor should take these yamaha motors and build them for the race crowd. Even if they were to cost 35k each they would still be so much more affordable than inboard power.

I would imagine it will not be long till the guys at Hydro Tech have kits for the SHO motors like they have had for the Yamaha HPDI's

Seven Marine has the 557HP production outboard. Two of those would push that 36 Spectre pretty good.

The problem is the lower unit and weight, with outboards the performance is really from there power to weight ratio and normally higher rpm as well as surface piercing props.

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive for a poor gubment employee like myself. Thats why I have an 1989 hull and 1998 motors. Noli, that Spectre is bad ass. I have an aquaintance that has a nice 32 skater with twin 300xs'. Very efficent package. Like the Frankenrude make it yourself. Build an adapter to run a sporty LU on a Yammy. I am a mechanical engineer,but, you don't need a degree to figure out how to make it work. Just a lower middle class grunt with the desire and time.
How much are the 7marine motors? The 300xs was 16.5k a piece!!!!!!! I need two! Out of my league. I wouldn't be in this sport without Sparky Olsen teaching me how to build the powerheads and Steve McEachon giving me seat time and advice in his 36 Skater! Thanks guys for all the help and advice!
