You are behind on your house payments but you still are supporting a boat? Ask the good lord for some common sense. Then ask the good lord for forgivness after you ruin someone else's life and have no insurance to help them out.

Then ask for some spelling lessons.

I also hope he's kidding.

Talk to your insurance advisor about a Personal Liability Umbrella Policy (PLUP).

EVERY ONE of us should have one!

Q: If you run your $22K 24' Baja into the side of a $1M 52' MTI, and sink both of them, full of fuel (EPA cleanup); how far do you think your $300K boat liability policy is going to take you?

A: All the way to the poor house.

**You may need to have a proper vessel insurance (liability) policy to have your boat covered under your PLUP.

This is crazy!!!! My first boat, which I still have, is a 1993 Baja 272. Insurance and taxes were about 1000.00 that's with 500,00.00 liability coverage. I would never run the boat without insurance. When I was shopping for a new boat insurance rates were one of the determining factor when it came to power. I really wanted a twin engine cat but the insurance rates were so high that it wasn't a good deal for me. I then wanted something with stock "blue" merc power but again the speeds, high 80's low 90's, it again became crazy with the rates 2000.00 or more a year for a 32-35 v-bottom. Now this is with my age 34 and boating experience 5 years. I ended up getting a 2005 Sunsation Dominator with 496's and it will run right about 80. I was upfront and honest with my insurance carrier, Wozencraft, this way if I ever have to file a claim I won't be up chit's creek. I am not really worried about myself, but I do worry about my passengers and fellow boaters.

just curious after reading most the posts here.............the consensus here seems to be that there should be "mandatory insurance" for all boaters.

and this after most seemed against boater license or mandatory safe boating course to help curb some of the issues with poker runs and the behavior shown on youtube.

also wondering if anyone actually understands how insurance companies come up with the pricing for performance boating. as of now i'm guessing they go to youtube and pick a number out of the sky and times that by a few thousand.

Talking to other boaters on sandbars and out on the water I get the feeling that MORE of them are uninsured than insured and this includes some boats well north of 100,000$. I have heard talk of boaters with fancy, hi speed boats FORGING insurance papers for poker runs that require insurance, personally heard this directly from their mouths. I recently did some work on a 22,000 mile 1970 440 six pak cuda, the owner of the car has over 20 Harleys in his collection (showroom new) and a full spectrum of 1960's corvettes among many other muscle cars, hemi cars etc. I have 2 muscle cars worth about 20,000-25,000 ea, I asked him who he used for his insurance as I use Haggerty, he LAUGHED at me and said he NEVER puts insurance on them once he gets his collector plate (good for 10 years in Mi) as most of them get trailered and sit in storage. We are talking copo vettes, 435hp 427 stuff, sitting with no insurance , his collection is worth well into the multi millions, he said the insurance on all the cars was over 5000$ a year and there was no way he would pay it BUT he flips them and makes 10-20,000 a pop here and there to support his habit, UNBELIEVABLE .
As far as boats though, you just have to drive with the mentality on the water that every boat around you is un-insured and driver is probably legally drunk and they are to be avoided, Smitty

I have heard the same on forged ins papers. Plus how many people lie about hp and top speed of their boats?? Which would null and void the policy.

The AT would not sink though. :drink:

FWIW, I was not picking on Baja or MTI. Just two boats I saw listed for sale recently.

No offense to anyone on here but IMO..........

Insurance is overpriced

50% reason to have is just for piece of mind.

Insurance companies are FOR PROFIT and get paid commission on DENIYING claims

A large percentage of people do not even understand their policy's anyways and put to much trust into their agents and insurance companies

To many of us are scared to even file a claim

To many people make claims that are not correct that end up costing us all more money in the long run

Overall insurance just plane annoys me!

Plus, a 1 2 or 3 million dollar policy is a JOKE nowadays. People are so greedy they will go after you for 10's or 100's of millions!

How often to you hear about a lawsuit for only a few hundred grand!

I am not saying insurance is all bad. It should be used as ONE of many tools we have in life.

Now I am getting worked up over it! If I see one more commercial about how a ins. company can save me money....Just stop spending so much money on the stupid commercials and LOWER our rates! :lolhit:

I do paint bodywork glass work that for a living. That is how I would fix someones boat if i hit it. Kinda hard to hit another boat if you run 150 feet away from it if you are on plane like you are supposed too. I am not invincible. I just have faith in god almighty. If some of you people on here do not that is your problem// Just be care full boating. LIKE I FACKING DO> It is my life sport. and I never take it for grantid. I was serios about everything i said. . And I am always careful considerate and respectful of every one.. Even the azzhole that hit my fountain with his jet ski.. whatever. get over your selfs ......
