What about the Stainless Marine gen.3 BB manifolds for a 525 application ??

Donziben 11-20-2013 09:58 PM

The top gun we purchased this summer has Hardin marine headers on 525's. They are 2 yrs old, I am rebuilding top ends this winter they have 450hrs on them. I will have the headers pressure tested to make sure they are ok. My mechanics talk nothing but good things about the Hardin marine headers.

This might help. These are 2011 CMI's

Yes - thank you! That helps me. I'll need to check mine this weekend.

Thanks!

Prior to the Gen X the collar was the same as the Gen x as shown on the pic. CMI does make a military header, no "cool collar" bs. That's the way to go if you can get a set.

Thanks. I'm not looking for a set (yet...), I'm buying a 2011 boat w/525's and 35 hours. Just trying to understand the whole CMI thing and hoping I don't need to worry about this for a couple years....

I've had the old style and the new style CMI's and have problems with both on 525 motors. I forget the number of sets I've gone through. On the next boat I used Stainless Marine and they've worked for me. I won't buy any more CMI's.

Will they attach easily to a 525/600/700 engine or are modifications required?

Diamond Performance makes them now, you'd need to call and ask Bill about that. I think you need to do a mod to the heads to make them work. I know he was working on that.

Reliable and making it to all stops is the plan.

Money is not a problem getting educated and sharing imformation is were I am coming from so I only do this once not two or three times.

Agreed!

It's just a simple rule of physics and basic metalurgy... Heat, cycling, flex, constant differences in temperature, welds, tubes, bends, collectors, bungs, more welds....... It WILL happen to any header over time.

It's just my opinion but everyone gets focused on the bling... Even Mercury finally went with a manifold design on their new turbo engines... Stainless Marine went into the business of manifolds because they started out as a stainless header company. I applaud them!

Just call Hardin Marine as they have a direct replacement for these headers but they are made in a better material than the CMI's are and they are far superior.
