Mattyboy

Ted G 08-10-2002 10:42 AM

They have a 30ish footer that will do 100+ with 300 Promaxs. Seem pretty well made. But I don't know anyone that has one.

Waterfoul 08-10-2002 10:48 AM

OSO member AdvantageRob has one with twin OB. Runs on Lake St. Clair, MI. There is a yellow one cruising around LOTO also with twin OB.

cobra marty 08-10-2002 11:14 AM

They were built in NJ by Peter Casini In the early 90's raced and did very well with o/b and i/o's. He tried to sell pleasure version 30' true tunnel cat 8'6" kevlar with o/b and single and twin i/o's. The bottom and lines are very similiar to a Chris Cat with s more sleek deck. At that time a cat was a tough sell so he cut out the center and made a center console fishing boat with his race proven/winning bottom and dropped the pleasure boat. He did fairly well selling mostly to FL where they would fish 100 miles offshore and with the cobra it would get there and back in 3 hours and fish for 5 hours verses 5 hours to get there and fish for 3 hours. THey got longer fishing time and if the weather change they could be back to port before it got really bad. He did build a 35' pleasure and fishing boat. He went bankrupt in the last year or two. He had a good boat but a bad business man. Either him or the lawyer are starting up again.

I have a '98 Terminator 3000 as they were calledpleasure boat. With stock 502 it did 80-85mph and with supercharger it does right at 100mph with one engine. I bought it because it was the biggest single engine cat. Fast, safe, get me out of trouble, at 100 not at its peak. Supposidly a twin i/o ran 127mph many years ago.

I have one, TwoKK's, JBraurer all have the pleasure one. There are many fishing models for sale in the boattrader.com.

Hauling Trash 08-10-2002 11:50 AM

If i go down the block from me about (1 mile) They build them in beachwood N.J

cobra marty 08-10-2002 11:58 AM

Mike-- WHo is building them now? I thought they were in Egg Harbor or is that the same. They were at an old 7-up distribution building. No more plearure versions?

mattyboy 08-10-2002 05:10 PM

Cobra marty,
I think you hit the nail on the head, i met Peter Cassini the other night he was driving the boat, and they had a bass type boat as well with a 300 promax that did high 80's he said they build the boats in south jersey, he was up ay my lake running some tests.
seems like a good guy, he's real interested in my 1967 donzi.
he said they're building boats for the police as well.

His 20' bass fishing cat looks pretty neat. Flat deck and you sit in the spnsons. Check site sometimes it works. www.cobraboats.com

Hey there gentlemen!
Just wanted to drop a line and say my husband and I just got our new 3100 Cobra Predator with twin 300's. She was delivered yesterday and all I can say is wow!!!
My husband took a ride in the small one ya'll are talking about and he said it was fast but wouldn't allow you to take more then two or three out.
The Predator is great she screams for speed and the fish ability is fantastic. We ended up outfitting our Cobra for fish and pleasure. By the way the factory has two locations where we were able to visit and see our boat while it was in production. I can only say they are certainly not out of business.

If you're in the market for a 30' Cat, check out our 30' AeroTek in the classifieds under "MISC CATS". It's great in rough water, runs about 85 mph with 3 Johnson V8's and has a big cabin. The boat has been completely rerigged, has a new floor, new interior, new paint, etc. We're selling it because we got a 28' Skater. The Aerotek is a good party, poker run boat while the Skater is a go-fast, no frills boat.

Not sure if they are being laid up on Rt 9 in Beachwood, NJ or if they are just being rigged there. All the boats are fishing orientated, anywhere from 36' down to a guessing 20' cat. The name on the boats is "COBRA" like the ones raced up here in the North East in the 90's. Not sure if it is the same owners or not but it is the molds and the boats.

fatdaddy 11-05-2002 09:23 PM

I have a '96 30 Ft. Cobra w/ twin '99 Merc 300 hp Promaxs. I had it listed in the classifieds section in the late summer and had alot of interest. Unfortunately, I got my chain pulled by a tire kicker and didn't follow up w/ others. My ad expired and I haven't had a hance to relist it. It is currently on ebay w/ a low reserve. See it at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...tem=1871986583 .

SHARKEY-IMAGES 11-05-2002 09:35 PM

Yes that is still Peter Casini's boats that are on Rte 9. I have seen him there setting up shop. There is no way they would be building the boats there. I believe they only picked up that location for sales & rigging. Too many homes close by to put up with the fumes of building boats.

TwoKs 11-06-2002 08:48 PM

I have a 30'cobra terminator project. Previous owner had set it up for raceing and did alterations [moved engines foward, stand off boxes custom engine hatch ect.] he said he had the boat going 117mph with twinn 540hps. He decided to move fuel tanks foward and removed the floor and disassembled the boat and thats how I bought it. I'm in the process of putting it back to pleasure boat. I can say that these are very well built boats. Every material that cobra used in building the hull is top grade. The hull and deck is balsa cored and I found alot of kevlar used in the hull. I replaced some bulkheads that were cut when the engines were moved foward and found good grade plywod was used when built. They seem to have been built light and strong. They are a great looking boat too. I cant wait to drive it.

fatdaddy 11-06-2002 08:48 PM

Yeah, sorry about that. You can just go to ebay and enter the item # or search under boats. Sorry.

tripps 11-07-2002 09:23 PM

Can't let a thread about Cobra go by without puttin' in my .02! I've now had my Terminator for one year with no problems. Everything I've seen, felt, and expereinced says this boat is built well and it's a heck of a lot of fun. Those that know me from the board have probably seen my boat. If not, here's a link to some pics!

Two K's - How's the project coming along? Hope it'll see water next year!!!

fatdaddy 11-07-2002 10:05 PM

Catmando, I had an ad on OSO in the late summer and will relist if it doesn't go on ebay. When on OSO, I was at $59000 or b/o, my reserve on ebay is much lower. I need to sell in order to be ready to buy at the upcoming boat shows.

TwoKs 11-08-2002 09:50 PM

Hi Tripps I hear Plumber is at it again!! Cool! Hey Jeff, hows things. Your boat looks great as usual I,m making a balsa cored engine hatch with mopar proscoops for mine now. Starting to get cold here but still at it. Looks like a real nice boat fatdaddys selling

waterwitch688 11-10-2002 09:37 AM

Hey guys,
Just wanted to give you an update in response to locations. I know when we were in NJ seeing our boat Cobra has a small rigging shop and sales location in Beachwod. We also went to the manufacturing plant that is near Camden. It was impressive! they are also building boats for the military and other police agencies. Cobra has another location also. (didn't go there though) I know that our dealings with the factory were positive and if anyone is looking to get info on them we will be glad to help out! Our sales rep. did say that Cobra had a large facility that they had purchased near Egg Harbor because they had outgrown the two locations they were in originally. He stated that after getting settled into the facility the zoning was yanked from them and they had to relocate once again. I believe they build a great boat and quality is definately there. I am glad to see they are doing what they do best which is building boats! If anyone wants any pic's of our new Cobra let me know and I will send them your way. Went fishing yesterday in our boat and we loved it! Had a great time and actually caught some for a change!

TwoKs 11-10-2002 05:29 PM

Waterwitch688 your new Cobra sounds like a real nice boat. What kind of speeds are you seeing? Probably fast as hell! Lots of luck with your new Cobra.

454hoho 11-10-2002 07:21 PM

near Camden????

Waterwitch , Do you have a location, what town around Camden?:D

waterwitch688 11-11-2002 07:25 AM

Hey Two K's,
We love the Cobra as you can see! While we were out there running it seemed that no one could keep up with us even when we were offshore in 2 to 4's.
Right after break in with full fuel we hit 78.8 mph and then at quarter tanks we were at 88.2mph. Our boat has a t-top and full electronics.
What kind of boat are you running?

TwoKs 11-11-2002 05:35 PM

I have a 30' Cobra terminator that I'm putting together.I know some of them had cabins and thats what I'm building into it now. Haven't had a ride in it yet. A couple of my friends have them and they all are happy. Like I said before they are built very well and I think one sharp looking boat. They look like there fast sitting still! Cobra gets some real high speeds with single inboard which tells you the hull design is working well.

fatdaddy 11-11-2002 09:31 PM

Well, another failed attempt at selling my boat. My ebay auction just ended w/ a high bid of $35,110, which, obviously, did not meet my reserve. The high bidder contacted me and made me a higher offer but I haven't decided. I may relist on OSO again but before that I was looking for some input re: a reasonable asking price. In short, it is a '96 30 ft. Cobra Cat w/ twin '99 300 hp Promax's under warranty through 4/04. The boat has a recent interior, Gaffrig Monster Gauges, hydraulic steering, lab finished props and sits on a Target steel trailer. What # do you guys think. I hate to let it go as it has been trouble free but I need to sell as the Mrs. says we need a more family friendly boat (2 boys, almost 4 and almost 2 and another on the way). Thanks in advance. Ric

fatdaddy 11-12-2002 08:26 PM

Still waiting on some input re: a reasonable selling price before I relist on OSO. Anyone?

cobra marty 11-13-2002 06:51 PM

What color? Any pictures?

thisistank 11-13-2002 07:10 PM

I've been reading this thread and have noticed that most of the responses are from people on the East coast. I don't know if you know but theres a boat company in California also called Cobra. I believe it is a splash from an Ultra. Anyway, seeing as the Cobra you guys are talking about has obviously been around longer isn't this some sort of copy right infringment or something?? Or are the two companies related??

50K tops.

TwoKs 11-13-2002 09:56 PM

thisistank I was wondering the same thing? I think the Jersey one is COBRA BOATS and the wet coast one is COBRA PERFORMANCE BOATS. Either way I would think it would be infringment. The west coast one claims to be comming out with a tunnel soon also. Fatdaddy,I have seen one outboard setup selling for about 40 with older motors and I have seen one sell for about 60+ with newer motors.I think its a matter of finding a buyer who is really serious about buying and you have exactly what he wants

fatdaddy 11-13-2002 09:57 PM

Ron: I was thinking same. I have to get around to relisting on OSO or start looking to trade in.

Catmando: I don't know Munky or his shockwave:confused:

fatdaddy 11-13-2002 10:00 PM

TWOK's: I totally agree. This is a great boat for the money, I just got to find someone who wants to part w/ the $ in order to start looking for a replacement. I'm not planning on buying new so a trade will not be easy.

TwoKs 11-13-2002 10:17 PM

fatdaddy, post the kind of trade your looking for cause ya never know!

fatdaddy 11-13-2002 10:39 PM

I'm looking for a 30 + ft. v bottom w/ a decent cabin for the kids.

SHARKEY-IMAGES 11-14-2002 01:35 AM

Have you tried offering to sell with or without power? I would think the engines would bring you good $$$. The Cobra's on the East Coast everyone is familiar with them locally. You may want to try advertising it down south. ;) It may be a hard sell with the company vanishing and now just starting to appear again...

I know with my boat being over powered no one even made any offers. I took the power off of it and sold that. The next day the boat sold. Could have been just pure luck too........;)

I too would like to know how the name registration works in this country. Is it by state? When BULLET BOATS, INC. in New Jersey was in business, I also found a Bass Boat manufacturer in Tennessee using the exact same name.

jbrauer 11-14-2002 05:48 AM

We recently started a new company (not boating related). I believe the name is strictly by state. Further, if a name you want a name that is already taken in a state, it is ussually easy to get around by "Cobra Boats of Idaho" vs. Cobra Boats.

Not sure how this is affected when an easily recognized name is involved. I'm sure you might get in hot water if you decided to use "Microsoft of Missouri"

Fatdaddy - I would think mid 40's on your boat would be a good price at the end of the season. You've got awesome graphics that I'm sure cost you big $$$'s. Unfortunately, they may scare some more conservative (read that as married) people off. This could reduce the number of potential buyers.

After running my Cobra for a full season, I think the boats really shine on large inland water or even the Great Lakes most days. I don't think you could find water too rough unless you go offshore. Maybe there is a way you could advertise in the LOTO area??

Good Luck!
