What do you think the best Cat build today is?
Obviously coping this from the V bottom thread posted, why not do cats to? Hey it's winter and it Just snowed here in Northern California!! What the heck, I don't see white stuff on the ground ever!! Lol
I personally am very excited to see the new 40 Mystic. Overall Im a Skater fan, but have respect for MTI and others as well. Just thought we could hear from the guys that own them! Remember in all posts we can't tell the tone of voice, so lets just make it a fun argument!! Ps- it's gonna be a great weekend for Football, happy weekend everyone |
I'll let it to those that have actually caressed these fine speed machines with their own hands and have floated them in the most extreme conditions to describe each brand . I can say I love my little Warlock but alas they are extinct as a builder . Carry on .
|
Can we get a list on who's building cats
OL ,skater,MTI,mystic, ultra,Nordic, eliminator what else is being built? |
Do we dare count center pods?
|
I had thought that MTI was going to walk away with this one but Skater has stepped up. I'd say either of those two if I were in the market. JMO of course.
|
The 50 foot Mystic My Way is current speed record holder for turbine class. But I don't know much about one vs the other so this should be an interesting thread as well.
|
Fit and Finish goes to Skater IMO + all the other positives they are renowned for.....

I think you have to include Doug Wright in this discussion, depending on what size cat you are talking about.
|
They're all good if they are paid for and running hard - LOL
|
Had a DCB, currently own a Skater but am building a new 48 MTI.
Fit and finish is debatable, depending on who does the paint. In the rigging and bling department, MTI and DCB would be hard to beat. I personally like the lines of both the MTI and Skater. DCB was a very forgiving, easy boat to drive, though not overly fast for the power. Opposite is true for Skater, for me. Can't wait to spend some quality time in the MTI, should be a beast. |
If I win the mega millions next week I will be flying to Michigan to place in order!!!! Summer Obsessions 40' Skater is what I would buy to use until my new one is built!!! :) love everything about that boat
SKATER |
Funny I was typing this and you replied in front of me.... Congrats on the new 48 MTI Build... Can't wait to see it
Pat |
I think Bill Pyburn said it best on the video on Powerboat Nation- and he's owned his fair share- he said the 388 Skater is probably the best POUND FOR POUND cat out there!! I'd have to believe him

.
www.predatorpowerboats.com http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...b318_0-en.html I'd like boat below with twin 300XS and custom color-to-match alum trailer. http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...y/DSC04899.jpg |
Since most of us on here are dreaming- lets have some fun and say what boat we would buy and what power as well and why? As well as talking about the best Cat, not all have 1st hand experience! This is the fun of this website
So I guess if you own one- tell us your experience If you don't- tell us what you like and would build I'll start- 388 with some Carson Brummett dual stage motors. One setting on pump 91 and one on E85 type fuel. Tilt trailer of course to be pulled by a Sport Chassis!! Lol |
Having crewed on several top dollar teams, where money was no object. It always came down to SKATER. I have personally spent may weeks at skater while either getting the finishing touches on a new boat or having some repairs made after a race.
Also I know for a fact that the new 40ft Mystic, unrigged, is Quite pricey. A 388 skater is almost half the price of the new unproven Mystic. I know this seems hard to believe ,but trust me its true. As far as MTI goes. If I remember right when Randy S. was running the Victory team they splashed a mold off of a skater and called it a Victory hull. Then Randy came back home and expanded on that format. And called his MTI. So it seems to me that MTI is a revised version of a Skater. Now don't get all upset and tell me I'm wrong unless you really know the facts. I wasn't evolved with the Victory team or Randy's new MTI. If Iam wrong (which Iam almost positive I'm not) I will stand corrected. I was around working on rce teams when all this was going on. Also I'am NOT taking anything away from Randy for building a great boat. SKATER!!!!!! |
All are great boats and are better at certain things. For me you can not beat a skater, they have the most experience building cats and just build boats that flat out perform. The Doug Wright 32 is also amazing and I'm really excited to see how that company grows and expands over the years.
My dream boat would be a 338 skater with mercury 1350's and arneson drives. |
Lake Rat- Damn do you want an airplane or boat? Lol holy chit that thing would fly with 1350s!!

For me I would buy a Skater, just my opinion. But If I won the Power ball I would have a Skater for one house, a MTI for a Florida home and a DCB for a Southwestern area home. Maybe a DW for another home in the Finger Lake area. Oh yeah let's not for get another Skater for my LOTO home. OK time to wake up now!
|
What about Nor Tech? I have never been on one but absolutely love the way they sit in the water. Gorgeous.
|
I think we need more threads like this during the "off season." Maybe we could open new and informative threads on best lawnmower, best breakfast cereal, best tampon, best jock strap, best dentures, best ...
Words fail me. |
Too Stoked- too funny!! Lmao

Since I am dreaming, either a Nor-Tech cause of their style, or MTI to support the local company.
And for Too Stroked- my gf would swear on OVO as best vibrator's. German engineering at its best. |
A bad cat?? well its vintage but you have to include the D-9, hell they even made a movie about it.. KILL DOZER.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killdozer!_(film)

I'm just curious, do all cats.porpoise during cruise? If so doesn't that take them out of any discussion as great boats? Wouldn't that make them only great race boats? I hear things like "skaters take half the lake to turn" why would that be acceptable?

As far as the porpose it's again about set up... Flight Clubs new 388 had a slight porpose at 75-85 originally, then we took the 1 inch spacer out and it fixed it... I was there and ride in it when it was brand new, and also assisted a bit in taking out the Spacers, we had Vinny Riffice there the great throttle and set up guy. He really is awesome. Knows what's up |
I would just be Bob Bull
Mulit MTI owner biggest private dock ever built at LOTO Mustang jet to bop around the country Racer Poker runner Cool laid back dude you would never know is loaded Lives as hard today as he did when he wasn't loaded |
