i would at a minimum have him tell his mechanic to pull the exhaust manifolds, this way if they are cracked and when they thaw out no water goes into the cylinder if a exhaust valve is open.

I had a 496 manifold freeze and crack, I saw the crack as soon as I climbed into the engine hold to reconnect the hoses that were SUPPOSED to have been disconnected. I missed the rh on the rh engine, I couldn't get it by hand and forgot about it apparently. Being crafty and blessed with some talented friends we welded the roughly 4" crack and it seemed to work fine.

I agree! Shouldn't he need to run it to winterize it? I wonder if it's been done yet? I keep my boat in the heat all winter but still winterize. You just never know when the power is going to go out for an extended period... The last thing I want to worry about during a power outage is the boat freezing... $10 worth of pink chit per engine is well worth the piece of mind.

The boat is in a heated warehouse now so he isn't going to go fire it up. It was never winterized but it sounds like he could be looking at a heat exchanger and/or manifolds. I guess we will find out in the spring.....Fingers are crossed that he is ok.

Just a thought, Is it sitting full of fresh or salt water?

Probably get flamed for this but put a small ceramic cube heater on low setting under the hatch somewhere up high and block the bilge vents with towels until he can get her inside.
