I saw Canada Thrust fuel up at a Poker Run......they put gas in it, then diesel, then gas with the theory that the gasoline ignites the diesel and the gas burns clean. They also filled the other tanks with water to wash the salt off the blades! It seemed like a lot of work but when they left Daytona and crushed the whole pack all the way to St Augustine even doubling back to go see the pack again and still got to the fuel dock 15 minutes ahead of the next boat (46 Rough Ryder/1075's) it made the fuel calculation worth it!

Speaking of Naive thinking....
I've been doing this, TURBINE BOATS for 27 years and I have yet to have a fire or a blow up or any of the fearmunger things that go on these boards. Then again I don't run valves, pressure test headers, worry about corrosion, never had to do a head job or replace engines every year or two, never had a sea pump problem nor even a alternator failure.
If you boat a few hundred hours a year then these cannot be beat. However, if you boat the normal 15-25 hours a year an have a bossy wife with kids then this is not for you.
Oh, and there are a lot of petrol powered boats that catch fire each year and the word "limits" is an arguably vague term as one never knows where it is until it's to late which has ZERO to do with the engine selection.

My only concern, depending where your located? Is the availability of fuel? Most marinas carry gas, some carry gas and diesel, but not sure how many carry Jet A?
I have been told it's a mixture of diesel and kerosene, if that's true then it would be reasonably cheap, compared to 116 race fuel at least?

Damn I want one. I've always wanted a turbine plane but out of my budget because of the operating costs.
These boats would more than fit my boating applications.
Oh yeah........and it's baaaaaadddddddddd aaaaaaaaasssssssssssss when they spool up.

Turbines have been used in the marine environment for a lot longer than either of us have been involved with them. I pull'd a set of GE's out of a Hydrofoil Ferry that was built in the early 1960's (built and promoted by GE) so there is nothing new here. Diesel turbo's as well as petrol turbo's get HOT and they are contained, same things are done for Turbines as well. No one with any concernes is placing a lit torch in the bilge of a boat without addressing that concern.
I think what 302 is saying, that is being taken wrong, is the "overlimit" running of the engines. Military spec is rather conservative in comparison to what is being done with the boats. The N1/N2 Gov is turned up as the faster the engine turns the more power they make. This is WAY beyond the Mil Spec or any other aviation/manufacturer's spec's as these are GPU's not airworthy. The boat does not crash b/c an engine fails. Far different mind set and thus far different set of people that are willing to push thing beyond the engines intended limits. Everything is only as safe as you make it.
