I remember a trip when I was 14 from lake st clair to Georgian Bay in my dads 272 formula. When we headed across Lake Huron we got caught in a storm about midpoint. We were running with a 41 stinger, 40 Excalibur, and a 32 baja. When in the trough everything disappeared, land, boats, everything. I had on my life vest and crapping myself! I would have said they were 15' waves but come to find out they were 6'-8' with occasional bigger. Huge rollers. We were small enough to fit between the waves, while the 40's were stuffing just about every wave! Both lost windshields!

10'-15' isn't something you're going boating in.

This is a perfect example on how waves look bigger when your on the water and pleasure craft should not be on the water in those seas. (yes our offshore powerboats are pleasure craft)

Maybe yours. But you don't have a fountain.

My buddy had one with corvette motors in it and it was ALLLLLL Business

Is that the sound of the spanking they take from all the new stepped bottom boats?

Lately every thread is somebody posts something and 20 guys jump on him and tell him he is full of sh*T.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to tell wave height from a video. I agree if you look at the waves it doesn't look all that rough, but look at high the nose of that boat is launching. That boat is 46' long, you think a 4' wave will do that? Have you ever actually been in a 46 Cig?

I don't know if the waves were 8' of not, but it sure looks rough. If the guy who was there says they were 8', who am I to say that they weren't? And I never met Scott Shogren, but I have to believe he has driven a boat once or twice and knows how the trim button works.

Is this where we turn this into a fountain vs cig vs apache vs donzi vs bayliner? Or wait another page or two?

Question:

So what is the best rough water boat anyway>?

I'm thinking about buying the 55 MTI when I finish painting my 40 skater. Will I be able to launch the MTI off 50' waves? I heard cats can handle 90% of their length in wave height as long as you are "packing - the -air" or something like that

EDIT:in case it's not obvious, the sarcasm switch is ON

Bam??

No reason to debate. We all know a Chaparral2300 is the best boat ever.
