If this is the case then I have easily boated in 20'-25' multiple times.

s022mag 01-14-2014 05:32 PM

It's hard to determine wave height in videos. That is a 46' footer and the way it was bouncing around I got no doubt those waves were at least 10s. It looked bad that's for sure. To bad he didn't have a go pro.

Sunrocket24 01-14-2014 05:38 PM

4-6 no bigger probably closer to 4ft

benjen 01-14-2014 05:41 PM

I agree it's hard to tell wave heights in a video............a poor one at that. But, come on. Not even close.

I think you are probably dead on accurate with the 4' estimate.

Yeah, a couple of 4's in there, under for the rest. Nice looking powerboat.

Hollowpoint 01-14-2014 05:45 PM

I might go with as high as an occasional 8 footer, but no more. Boat looked like it was trimmed up too much. Was that one of the American Muscle boats?
Mainly looked 4-6 to me also.

benjen 01-14-2014 06:28 PM

Guy was going too slow. You need to get up on top and stay there.

sea6 01-14-2014 06:32 PM

Breather covers suggest its the Strip Poker rough rider. Was at pier 57 last time I saw it. It spent some time in the RVA before that.

Drock78 01-14-2014 06:36 PM

that was Pier 57. weather buoy showed 12-16 foot that day but that was way offshore. it showed 4-6 foot close to shore. A tad exaggerated. It is the 46' Strip Poker boat.

14 apache 01-14-2014 06:37 PM

Boy I was getting happy to see this video. IT Fu--ing sucked Here is the throttle guy.:coolcowboy:

Sunrocket24 01-14-2014 06:52 PM

For sure about 4ft. I have logged 59 Months on the Great Lakes and 24 months on the Bering Sea in Alaska on ships. Great Lakes is all wind driven and waves are much closer together and no tides or influence from the moon. In the ocean you have influence from the moon and wind so you get bigger waves but farther apart. (trying to keep this short google for more info). I was in true 15ft waves on a 140ft Ice Breaker in lake MI and I thought we were going to die. (spent 13 months on that ship) I did 36 months on a 225ft Bouy Tender and the most we were in on that ship was 10-12ft waves and it sucked BIG TIME! In the Bering Sea I was on a 213ft ship and we were in 20-30ft seas and that also sucked BIG TIME but the waves where much farther apart (frequency) so we didn't get beat up too bad.

Remember a "small craft advisory" is for boat/ships less than 65ft in length. And it is defined as winds 15-25kts and waves 3-6ft. SO NO WAY this Cig was in 15ft waves on Lake MI!

Pwraddr 01-14-2014 06:54 PM

Appeared to me that it was trimmed to high and no use of tab.

Nah, that's just cuz cigs ride like crap.

Here's an a 41' Apache, same day, same place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY5AUMcJZ4M

....The 38 fountain running with them got some good footage too, but the go pro blew off at 145MPH so it wasn't downloaded

gmgearhead454 01-14-2014 07:29 PM

What a load of crap. Any poker run at LOTO has bigger water than that, and I'm fairly certain I've carried more speed through it in my 242ls than this! Lol

2004 46 Cigarette Strip Poker

It was honest 8's. 4's would not affect the attitude of a 46. Couldn't get over 50MPH but had a blast and had tabs down about 65% and minimal trim in drives.

Been on lake MI for a long time, very few days like this. Yes, we wish we had the GOPRO with us but we didn't and had to use an IPHONE. The video was short and only 8' in video you see and 12-15 when we got further out but we could not video it with IPHONE and hold on at same time.

It was a short ride, FREEZING cold but we had to test the boat and it ran great, flew straight and landed soft, AWESOME boat that is now in LOTO.

Sorry we did not have better video because it was rollers which are a blast and we do not see much on lake, usually rough days are a big soup bowl. We will get better video next time.

Hope spring gets here soon.

With respect, I still don't buy even 8's. Look at the several wake shots you have. At no time do you have a wave that looks over 4. We have amazingly rough water in Galveston Bay sometimes and I have had to go home behind a barge in 4-5's. I have been out through the jetties into the Gulf of Mexico when the NOAA radio was saying 5-6' and they looked like 10's. We just did it to say we did and turned around after about 1/8 mile. It was very tricky even turning around. It was windy and we got soaking wet.

Did I ever tell you guys about the 15 foot salmon I caught? I measured it with the Cig driver's tape measure....

Certainly wished we got better video that day, buoy's are pretty accurate and you can go back and pull weather up for that day, it was rough.

Just have to sit back and take the beating on this one.

The ride was fun and one of roughest days we have had on lake but the IPHONE just didn't do it's job.

We will certainly get better video next time.

The Fountain tape measures are even worse. I built my house with one and everything was off by at least a foot!

The motors? :stooges:

Speedracer29 01-14-2014 08:49 PM

Personally, I really like the video. Using the videographer's measurement as a point of reference, my 230sx is actually a 41', CRUSHES 4-6 footers, and my personal "throttle" is a solid 10 inches. I. AM. ON. TOP. OF. THE. WORLD!

Did you see my previous post? I spent years on SHIPS in the Great Lakes you have no idea on the wave height. You all would have been killed if you were even in 10ft waves.

pullmytrigger 01-14-2014 08:54 PM

Were on Lake Ontario and anything over 6s its pure whitecaps as far as the eye can see....thats the first thing I looked for in that vid

Sunrocket24 01-14-2014 08:54 PM

The NOAA Bouys are out in the middle of the lake for information for SHIPS not pleasure craft close to shore.
