Get permission first!!!!!! haha

How many of you have heard.... "let me ask the wife (boss) and I'll get back to you....

Twice now I've had two guys who are seemingly very interested in my boat... certainly talking the talk..even talking about transportation of the boat. But when all the questions have been answered I get the.... "wife doesn't like the color" or "wife is happy with our current boat".

Guys who need to get the wife's nod.. do it before you put the seller through the paces...!!!!!!!!! Man it sucks :)

lucky strike 01-16-2014 06:24 PM

Next guy who says that... Ask him ? What exactly do you run at home?... The vacuum!!?

boatnt 01-16-2014 06:30 PM

every time I hear a guy say that I always think to myself this guy is full of $hit,,,
just using wife as a excuse to walk away from a deal,,,,

soonenough 01-16-2014 06:47 PM

Chris, What boat are you selling now? Deckboat?

Schweeng 01-16-2014 06:49 PM

You guys must not be married!
If momma ain't happy then nobodies happy....
Wives can sure harpoon a deal, so try selling her on it first.

jsbrowni 01-16-2014 07:11 PM

" so try selling her on it first."

Good point; meet with the wife first in private. If things go well then you are now safe to get the man involved! LOL

Crossett 01-16-2014 07:14 PM

Reason #487 I'm not married

Wideopen30 01-16-2014 07:14 PM

I used to love to buy stuff when my girl was out of town, and have it sitting in the driveway when she came home. Did it with a street bike, a small skater, and a new Benz ( that was for her). Lol. It is easier to ask for forgiveness then permission.

motor 01-16-2014 07:21 PM

I agree with boatnt...I think some nutless ones, just use the wife for an excuse

mike tkach 01-16-2014 07:33 PM

i bought a new truck one morning and drove it home.the wife came home from work for lunch and said, whay is that thing in the driveway,i said it looks like a new truck, she said ,you better just be test driving it,i said i am a little past the test drive stage, she was pizzed but o well i still had my new truck.to my suprise she said, good, now lets go get me a new car!that was an expensive week.

Schweeng 01-16-2014 07:39 PM

Maybe date night should include 15 minutes on line in the classified section...
The last guy even talk to me about having his retired dad pick it up....and at no point did he say "hey honey, what do you think"?

I mention it sometimes what I am doing but I always just buy what I want..... if its a good deal she can care less what I buy she knows I always make money on vehicles, as far as a boat... they have all been good enough deals that its a no brainer, When I got Cig, I said hey this is a deal we are getting it.... she said whatever...lol

I am with you....she knew that I bought my boat few days after the fact.

commandersander 01-16-2014 07:53 PM

I always ask for forgiveness......it's so much better than the one before I purchase, then the bigger one when I bring it home.....

Full Force 01-16-2014 08:04 PM

I make money on most things I buy so she dont care.... the boat of course not but I sink money into it knowing I am keeping it for a long time...so it dont matter its only money just make more...

Speedracer29 01-16-2014 08:22 PM

I had my new boat wrapped to look exactly like the old one.... If she ever asks, I'll just tell her the driveway shrunk. Her youth and beauty is no match for my old age and treachery.

I've used it multiple times.....and purchased.

ICDEDPPL 01-16-2014 08:27 PM

Ask permission.. thats a good one!

JasonSmith 01-16-2014 08:31 PM

I bought my boat & didn't even discuss it with my, now ex-wife. Even had her fooled into thinking we were really going to Iowa in the truck to help her sister move back to Kansas.
More men need to grow a pair & just make sh!t happen.

motor 01-16-2014 08:46 PM

I was selling a boat a year or so ago .A guy came to see it and really liked it .Then he said "I've got to run it by the wife, you know what I mean". I just replied to him "no I don't". If I buy something ,my wife will either like it, or get over it .Although I will admit ,she'll use that as an excuse for her to get something .It is ,what it is

oneanddone 01-16-2014 08:48 PM

:evilb:Pathetic excuse ...... If I pay the bills I call the shots unless........... she brings home the chedda then of course "we" buy a bigger newer boat LOL

I will keep my balls, spine and wallet sorry all done carry on......

Cobra100+ 01-16-2014 09:31 PM

From what i've seen, Between not having balls to pull the trigger or many of them are just wanna be tire kickers. Selling stuf has become a pain in the azz!

Bowtiepower00 01-16-2014 10:05 PM

Guess what guys, lots of good wives out there that make killer money and love motorsports and boating... Maybe I got one of the rare ones? At any rate, we discuss any purchase larger than a trip to the grocery store... Oh well, carry on... Have fun chasing the gold diggers and women with no income lmao...

blefever 01-16-2014 10:15 PM

I was on a off road motorcycle trip with about 10 guys. One of my friends had a new bike. Another guy, who I did not know, keep saying "Man, I sure would like a new bike....but my wife won't let me" At every stop he would stand around that bike and say the same thing over and over. Finally I had heard it enough and I said to the guy
" Sounds to me like you need a new wife" Every one cracked up, except for the guy, he had a blank look on his face and then said " I think your right" Never heard him say that again. Not sure if he got a new wife.....or a new bike. :)

Dukedonzi 01-16-2014 10:21 PM

I don't have much, but I know that half of not much equals even less...

So I always talk it over with my wife before I get to that point, just as she does with me.

Were not talking about gold diggers were discusing a boat purchase..why not just tell the seller you need a couple of days to think about it?
instead of ,I have to ask the wife...

I understand completely, but I always see these threads turn into an anti wife deal... I'm just saying there are plenty of beautiful, successful wives that can cook and clean that love boating out there...

Schweeng 01-17-2014 12:16 AM

funny stuff.....
If you are going to look into a boat...ask a ton of questions... ask for more pictures to be taken..... maybe first see if its something that "you" are allowed to buy first...... don't wast a sellers time....sometimes days of interaction to THEN maybe show your wife what you've been kicking only to have her say...."um...NO" lol

Bowtiepower00 01-17-2014 12:22 AM

I've been looking at several boats lately, but my wife knows exactly what our budget is and what we are looking at... And what the operating costs are....

Crude Intentions 01-17-2014 12:24 AM

Well it's so much easier now with the interwebz. No one has to even drive to look at something. Before it would be a picture in an ad. Lots if phone calls. The more serious ones would actually come look at it in person. Not no mo.

Griff 01-17-2014 01:34 AM

My wife never saw either of the last 2 boats I bought until they were in the driveway.

mrmalo32 01-17-2014 02:54 AM

I like to set new screen savers of new toys i want to buy
when she goes to computer i usually get OY WHATS THIS !! , oh just looking :-)
trust me you put 5-6 off shore boats scrolling mixed up with family pics they will get seen

I brought home the "Cannon" with another mans wife Airbrushed on the deck, funny enough i think she likes it.

great talking point in OZ

great wife and knows i wont be talked out of new toys

I'm not going back through the post, but I think only one guy said that's why he's not married .The reason my wife and I get along is because in the end ,I am the captain . She knows and accepts that but every marriage is different .I've been married 20 years and counting.

Cajun 2 Stepp 01-17-2014 05:46 AM

If I didn't have a wife, Phenomenon would be sitting in my driveway tonight....wait...I wouldn't have a driveway because I wouldn't have a nice home!
I would be in an apartment somewhere blowing my money on Jim Beam and silicone filled women.
But now that I think about it......

Speedracer29 01-17-2014 06:50 AM

Growing up in our house, there was an understanding... Dad didn't surprise Mom with new big-ticket items, and Mom didn't surprise Dad with divorce papers.
I'm breaking that vicious cycle, notsomuch brick by brick- more like muscle car by boat by motorcycle.

pstorti 01-17-2014 07:07 AM

The problem is some of the guys let these girls take over their lives when they were just dating once they take over control your screwed and spend your life asking for permission, I don't always just buy whatever I want but I certainly don't ask for permission, more of a courtesy, same as I would expect from her.

Bingo! Unless they are a bit shy of the X chromosome, you will have a hard sell beforehand....

Quinlan 01-17-2014 07:25 AM

If I would listen to mine it probably would have saved me the last 100K that I sunk into it!!
