He must test run on the Pamlico River with Reggie! :eekdrop:

Its a nice boat but 575's not staggered. Wow.

I'm probably asking a dumb question........But. Why should they be staggered? Just not enough room side by side ?

It was my understanding that they are faster. Maybe someone can elaborate thats more knowledgeable than me. I am not throwing the boat under the bus at all, i like the boat but if thats true, thats bad azz.

C_Spray 01-20-2014 10:01 PM

With the cylinder head upgrades, shorties and (no doubt) a few other tweaks, the claim is reasonable.

Bonjour.

Rattlesnake Jake 01-21-2014 04:50 AM

I know a 353 with 525 EFIs will run 84-85. So take it from there.

Unlimited jd 01-21-2014 05:23 AM

To get from 84-101 would take 150 more hp per side. If the claim and GPS is true that boat is set up about perfect.

Formula has never built a staggered boat. Some builders (AT comes to mind) believe it isn't an advantage.

Panther 01-21-2014 06:18 AM

Extension boxes, shorties, Dart Pro1's, 33' boat, step bottom, probably making closer to 700hp. I think its plausible.

right on, that boat should run right at that, not far fetched at all, my buddys 353 with 509CI 7lbs procharged with IMCO boxes and 1" shortys ran a best of 107mph so far with labbed 36 4 blades, not too hard to get these over 100 mph...

ealesh33 01-21-2014 08:01 AM

Honestly I don't have a clue if that is possible or not so I won't even comment on that, but the dash pic vs. the gps pic don't match up. Doesn't mean there couldn't have been some dash work done. It is a very nice boat regardless.

how do you come up with that? clearly the gps was a recall shot, the tachs were at whatever the key would have been shut off at....

It takes about 650-700 hp to put these at or over 100 mph, this boat with the power I see would have no problem doing it..

ealesh33 01-21-2014 09:01 AM

If you look at the photos in the ad there is a full dash shot, the full dash shot looks like it is probably an old dash shot as it doesn't have a gps speedo and is missing a few gauges that the shot of the gps speedo and mph, Just pointing out something I noticed is all, it may have no bearing on whether or not the boat did or didn't do what is posted.

To be Frank, some will correct you on the length.:lolhit:

I know a 382 with 700s runs 95-96. How fast is the new 382 with Ilmors??

lol! It used to be the SR1 soooo... well, you know... Anywho, I guess it's not an OL.... LOLOLOL

I think the 382 ran in the 90's with the Ilmors and Indys??

C_Spray 01-21-2014 09:33 AM

Best documented speed that I know of so far for an Ilmor/Indy 382 is 98. I think all of them have run at least 93 out of the box, depending on options. Formulas are the Lexus of the go-fast world, not the Vipers...

precisiondetails 01-21-2014 02:31 PM

Yes it is true, it's a friend of mine and I've been in it many times at 100. And of course the motors are not stock... No stagger on a 35 Formula

And there you have it...... real world posts from real world sources... Rumor debunked! There's +1 for Formula.

So just some new heads, and what kind of hp do you think he's pushing? The ad says valve train ,pistons to merc spec.

MILLERIME 01-21-2014 04:00 PM

A friend of mine has a set of Tyler Crocket built whippled motors making 700 a side in a 312 and it runs 101-102. I think it would take allot to get the 353 to those speeds.

I agree with you. This ad is stating almost stock motors.

does he also have shorty drives and extension boxes?

And pulley, makes about 700-725 a piece

Shorties but no boxes

MILLERIME 01-21-2014 06:46 PM

I would love to see it run...a 353 at a hundred would surprise a bunch of people. My buddy always gets that look at the dock's.

ratman 01-21-2014 08:10 PM

he was running with the current

Sounds about right to me. The Dart heads are a big improvement over the GM heads. With those heads, ECM tune and pulley change it sounds right to me. Sounds like a nice package. Similar power to a Merc 700sci.

He is probably trying not to scare off a buyer by saying they are worked over is my guess.

Your engines could be made into 700's pretty easily and still be reliable. Just need better drives.

Full Force 01-21-2014 09:18 PM

This will tell you all about how a 353 running 100 plus works... its my buddys boat.... not crazy power at all.... 107MPH and counting.....

I was going to do just that but the drives are the expensive part of that equation. Some people tell me that the XR drives can handle it but i'd have to really baby it. I don't beat my boat but if you run in some snotty stuff, sometimes the drives pop out and growl no mater how easy you go. You run the bay , you know what I mean. Got any ideas? Converting to 6's would really cost and i don't think i would ever recover that money in the resale or even a fraction of that cost. Someone once told me if you want to make your boat faster, go buy a faster boat.

Apexwarrior 01-22-2014 06:11 AM

Mine runs 97 with Whipples, XR's, no boxes and 5 blades. Im sure if I switched to 4 blades I would be at 100, but I prefer the better mid range the 5 blades give me. I if put shorties, boxes and 4 blades, who knows?? I would think 105 +.

By the way, the guy a few docks down from me has a kevlar 382 with warmed up 700's and NXT's and I think he runs 105 or so..

What engines are you running and what drives?

525's with Whipples and XR's.

So how do your drives hold up with the whipples? and what hp are you at? Im asking because i want to put whipples on my boat and make the 525's into 700's
But I'm afraid of everyone telling me that the drives won't hold up.
