Outerlimits Planning 30-foot Cat With Outboard Power

Just in, http://speedonthewater.com/new-boats...outboard-power.

Karaokemike 01-24-2014 12:22 PM

I wonder if Doc and Brian will get one and race super stock?

Could be fun to watch after watching them getting the SVL running perfect.

LAriverratt 01-24-2014 12:31 PM

now that's some great news...wonder if mystic will build one???

Crossett 01-24-2014 12:33 PM

I wonder if they'll offer it with a set of aluminum LSx's

drpete3 01-24-2014 12:35 PM

noli 01-24-2014 01:48 PM

.

will the boats be built at Eliminator's California shop just like the SV29's ?

or will the hull layup stay in RI using carbon, post-curing process?

.

Outkast Rafe 01-24-2014 07:25 PM

Interested in this.

Donziben 01-24-2014 08:40 PM

Very cool, can't wait to see one!

Maritime_Eng 01-25-2014 07:32 AM

Is this firrst ones being built race or pleasure boats?

Cash Bar 01-25-2014 10:44 AM

Anybody wanna guess a price? $299k? $249k? $199k?

glassdave 01-25-2014 10:49 AM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l91ISfcuzDw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

:D . . . . cant wait to see it though. thirty cats got a lot of possibilitys, OB's, LSx's with Arnesons, ??? ,

Bostonirish 01-25-2014 12:07 PM

I'm sure the boat will be great but how many directions can one boat building company go in? I am surprised the center console didn't take off for them considering it has for other high performance boat company's. Oh well what do I know? Lol just a thought.

Now that would be a game changer.

SS930 01-25-2014 12:38 PM

I too would love to see a 30-33' cat with aluminum LS power and Arneson drives! I'm not sure why 30' was chosen, I would think 32' seems to be a more popular size.

My guess is this new cat will be targeted around the XCAT series overseas.

85K for fiber glass hull 30 foot seem's like a lot of coin , when you can buy a complete 30 footer from another company for under $ 130 k complete with motor's ect, THe fiberglass is the cheapest part of boat building these day's

$7,000 cover???? Not a chance in hell... Pretty sure OL quoted more well under $1,500 for a cockpit cover for a 35ft boat. Your quotes sound like wild guesses at best.

noli 01-27-2014 08:27 AM

.

IMHO,

However OL decides on the price structure of this awesome cat, there's no doubt in my mind that this 30 foot cat will be a game changer and shall be worth every penny.

Same thing goes for the SV29, a game changer in every right.

I guess I'd prefer the all-carbon SV29 over the non-carbon , thus the few folks who paid top dollar for their carbon SV29 owns a very unique gold mine.

I'd like to see a rendering of this cat, hopefully soon.

Matt Trulio 01-27-2014 08:39 AM

As with all new models at this stage, there are more questions than answers—and answers only come when manufacturers A) Have them. B) Are willing to share them.

About the only new thing I can added is that, according to Mike Fiore, the molds will come from all-new, meaning original, CNC-cut tooling.

I don't think you're very far off on $$$ wasn't peter wanting to build a single outboard "entry level" cat over at skater??? and didn't they want to stay under or right at the 100K range??? and a new 28 skater??? seem to remember 185-195k, that was def high imo.... that is what it was listed for if my memory is right.

any updates yet?

dykstra 02-16-2014 06:44 PM

Way cool!!

Cash Bar 02-16-2014 09:42 PM

I spent some time with MF at the show. We discussed this model at length and he was kind enough to show me some CAD renderings. Looks like a great project and will most likely be available with OB and/or IO power. Pricing is nearing completion and I heard guestimates that make it VERY attractive.

Waterboy123 02-17-2014 01:08 AM

I strongly believe if they built a 30-ish ft cat that could be powered by lsx "style" motors you'd have a boat that would fly of the shelves.

Just curious, when will the CAD renderings and prices be made public?

Would you bet a couple hundred grand on it? That's the difference.

.

They will be built 100% in RI. Materials such as carbon are optional like all other models.

Happily. I'd pay the deposit today.

my initial estimate for non-carbon hull is $88K

if its well south of that then the consumers of OL products wins!

I agree with you here. Having been involved in a few outboard skater builds I think your spot on.

flight club 02-17-2014 07:29 PM

218? you forgot the paint. LOL

Lets see if it eventuates from outerlimits end, as we saw a couple of months back skater toyed with the idea of building a 30ft boat, and when it came down to the crunch the numbers didn't stack up from THEIR end. (at that's not a knock against skater, love there product but I understand that you need to prove the business case in order to build a product)

I think the key is in the title Outerlimits PLANNING to build...
