The release of the new "540" pretty much puts the nail in the coffin of the 525. Seems like they have too many engines in that range even after the 525 goes out of production.

It seems like all Merc is doing with this new engine is competing with its other engines that already available.
What is the advantage over a 520 and/or 565???? I can't think the price point is that much different.

Looks like they put CMI headers and maybe a bigger cam
on a 520....since they're share the same bore/stroke.

I know I'm going to be on an island on this one but...how about a small block overhead cam Ford based offering? The numbers out of stock 5.0, 5.4 and stock blown applications are astonishing. No more pushrods! All aluminum.

This is very risky to say and I don't want to start anything but it is time they move past the generic big block. I mean look at the ilmor lineup, they actually have entry level motors based on modern technology.
