need help! 32ft boat with twin Johnson 300's Tempest Europa
We just picked up this 32 Tempest Europa. It has twin 1992 4.0l Johnson v8 300 outboards, they have low water pickups and nosecones on them.
Boat is in ok condition. Needs some interior work in cockpit and cabin. Overall it seems like a good solid boat. Had 100psi compression on all cyl. wasn't able to do leak down at the house we were looking to buy it from.
Got the boat home, put 100gal of premium in it and took it out. Boat went 50mph at 5000rpm trimmed out that's all it had.
Rebuild all 16 carbs with new needles and seats, new spark plugs, one new powerpack (old one was working intermittently), new fuel filters, and did sync. and link. to factory specs.
Took boat out again, it went 51mph at 5100rpm. almost no gain.
Got it back to shop, got it good and hot, did compression check again. They were at 100psi still. Then we did leak down test and they were all around 15% leak down which we know is about blown up. Pulled the heads found some scoring and some rust pitting nothing major but it could use a rebuild.
The boat has raker 14.75x24p counter rotating props. Currently the props spin out. They way it is rigged the tops of the props are at the surface of the water on the outward side and piercing the top of the water on the inward side. Boat has a 25deg deadrise @ transom. From the info we have gathered we don't think the raker props are best for this boat. We believe the boat ways around 6000lbs.
We are trying to figure out what this boat was capable of in stock fresh form back in the day. Has anyone had or know anybody who has had one of these boats.
We are going to rebuild motors, maybe do some port work to try and gain more hp. Would really like to know what the boat did in stock form so we know what to expect or if we need to be making more hp some how to reach our goal of 65+ and cruising speed around 50mph.
What did it do as far as top speed, cruising speed, how was it rigged?
