This is the 3rd time for me posting on this thread, cause I bought another boat and need new lines!!!

Ordering today!!

brentadkins 04-19-2016 04:01 PM

I've ordered several from these guys over the past year, slowly replacing the worn out ones on my boat. Good prices and great quality. Definitely a fair deal.

Sam, How did the Top Knot lines perform?

Top Knot performed extremely well. They are heavier stiffer and hold their color.

The other brand stretched and frayed on pilings in KW and stretched under stress from wave action at LOTO. I had to readjust them numerous times due to stretching. The other brand is ok lines for what you pay for them but I trust my paint to Top Knot lines.

They have prices on inflatable life vests that I could not resist!

For how I boat, the MD lines are perfect. The customer service was outstanding. Bought all new 5/8 lines of assorted sizes. Also bought a 150' anchor line. Oh, and lines for the bumpers. We tie off to cleats so no concern with pilings. Bought some lines for a few friends and they have performed well from what I know and all in a variety of colors. No fade but we pull out nearly every night and I try hard to keep the lines dry. No issues with mildew or fade on the anchor line. Two thumbs up

BBCLiberator 04-20-2016 07:16 AM

I bought a bunch of stuff last year, prices are great, and product was nice. Everything was available in so many colors it was nice. I also bought an automatic/manual life jacket. They are $110 on the website, but they are a seller on eBay and I picked it up for like $88.

I bought an extra charge, I'm waiting to jump in my pool soon to test it out, lol.

This season I started putting all new lines on customers boats I do a pre season prep on, less than $100 for 3 lines and 3 fender whips from md and customers think it's the best thing ever. It adds up but when a customer walks down the dock, boat is in the slip, with all new lines on it they usually tip more than the lines cost me

I just ordered 6 yellow dock lines.

thirdchildhood 04-22-2016 05:33 PM

This thread is now over two years old. My yellow dock lines are on the way. Has anyone had any problems or regrets with these other than color running?

Padraig 04-22-2016 05:43 PM

I have had the yellow for a couple of seasons no trouble, no color running. If you tie up to a very rough post 5he really will be some snagging.

I would/will buy again.

Padraig

thirdchildhood 04-23-2016 01:49 PM

That was fast. Got my 6 new dock lines today. They look to be as good as any others I've seen and half the price. :)

I purchased 12 lines from MadDog in 2011, different lengths each color, blue, yellow. red. In 2014 bought more in yellow and purple. All have provided very good service , no fade and very little stretch if any after the first sew uses. Will buy from him again, excellent service and delivery in about 2-3 days. Gary

After a slightly heated discussion on a Donzi forum I did some further research. Dock lines should be 100% nylon and anchor lines should not float! I don't know why Donzi was providing poly lines with their new boats. Mine did last 10 years before one snapped. I don't know why so many smart people here with expensive boats from the likes of MTI, Skater, etc. are buying and endorsing polypropylene dock lines. I don't know why someone who is so well respected and knows so much about boats is endorsing floating anchor lines. I went along and bought a nice set of poly dock lines. I suppose the yellow lines won't be looking so bright after 5 or so seasons and then I will be switching to nylon.

Why does it matter if it secures your boat/fenders/anchor?

I got mine late last week. Decided to wait till the wife was gone and throw em in the washing machine for good measure. Glad I did, as they turned the water orange. lol

Used them for the first time yesterday...seem noticeably stretchier than any other dock lines I've used, but maybe that will cease after a few uses like Scarab500s said.

You want stretch to absorb shock but not permanent stretch and I guess that is the main advantage of nylon. I will use my new poly lines but my next ones will be nylon. I did snap a 1/2" poly line while moored on Lake Erie but it was ten years old. My cleats took quite a pounding that day and night.

Here is how I handle this. These are nice looking lines for a good price. They will work aso the lines I use when I tie up somewhere for a few hours. Then they go in the storage area. They won't go bad that fast or be asked to do anything in harsh environments for any extended periods. Where I keep my one boat docked I have nylon lines that sit in the sun and are used in harsh envirements. The reason most people haven't noticed an issue with these lines is because they are only used every once in a while and not kept in the sunlight all the time. That is why your other ones lasted 10 years. If they were on a dock all summer they would have broke in 2-3 years.

It's a good product and has its purpose. I wouldn't not buy these lines I would just use them as the best way they are ment to be used.

Pismo10 04-25-2016 10:36 AM

Hate those type of lines, they slide when tying half hitches, also the core tends to fall out. Terrible..

1989mach1 04-25-2016 04:18 PM

I have these lines and love them. They are only used when going to the islands for the day or over night and rafting off at the sand bar. They are soft, look great and don't leave marks on my boat or others like my old ones did. During the week my boat sits on a lift so they just get stored on board to use when we go places. If or when they go bad I will be buying them again. I got the silver ones and had no color run or fading.

thirdchildhood 05-05-2016 11:52 AM

Funny. I have actually used mine for light bondage. Nothing like in that picture though. That's a little too hardcore for me. I made this with one of my original dock lines to hang in my cabin:

just ordered more to match the new boat.

93 shooter 03-21-2017 09:08 AM

anyone purchase Mad Dog Fenders ?,any good?

BIGSLOW 03-21-2017 11:21 AM

All my dock lines are from them and I am happy with them. They don't fade in the sun either.

BBCLiberator 03-21-2017 04:15 PM

I've gotten anchor line, fender, dock line, inflatable life jackets -- all very good from here. There are different quality line if you need something stronger than "average" prices are amazing.

In fact, I wish they made larger diameter fenders for around some sea walls, I'd buy them as well.

cigrocket 03-21-2017 05:00 PM

Fast shipping and great quality. Have used them many times for different boats

Seems like fender covers have gotten up there in cost.
M.I.L. says that she is going to take a couple velour terry towels and sew up a couple for me soon.
:)

Oh you plan on buying stuff, but work will get in the way and you won't buy chit:evilb:

I had good luck with the Mad dog lines but used these fender covers from Amazon. They're easy to have embroidered too.
