I do not have a problem with porpoising. I just have an anchor/gas tank up front is all. I need the person riding with me to lean forward to get on plane easier because of where I have the motor lifted to.

Mini-Hawk

After about 700 views on the OSO Classifieds, and numerous e-mails and phone calls, my Mini-Hawk was finally sold today! Look for it in the near future down in the Atlantic City area where it may be repainted to match the new owner's 41 Apache.

Many thanks to all those that expressed an interest in the boat.
I guess now I have to start saving for a full size Cigarette!

I purchased the Mini-Hawk. The manufacturer of this boat was Hi-Tec Marine from the New York area. If anyone is having a problem with the boat porposing, Paradise boats sells small trim tabs. I've attached a picture of my 41 Apache that the mini-hawk will be painted to match.

xconn92 08-28-2002 03:53 PM

That is one sweet looking Apache!! Looking forward to seeing how Mini-Me turns out.

Apache041,

Do you have the web address to Hi-Tec Marine or phone #.

Apache041 08-28-2002 09:23 PM

AC,

I've been trying to track Hi-Tech down. Its possible they are not in business any more. Will let you know if I find anything.

Lee,u mentioned "jackin the engine up and down"
Who makes mini jack plates for clamp ons and where do I get one?

Sean 08-29-2002 07:16 PM

In my days as a road warrior(marine parts salesman), I used to pass the Hi-Tech shop quite frequently...I think they were in Patchogue...maybe this will help your search. I think they also built a 18 footer as well that was pretty narrow...

Here is a Mini-Hawk I made for my son about 12-13 years ago. They were 13' long and about 43-43" wide, deep-V. Ran high 30-s with a 25 HP merc. Spent more time out of the water than in, but landed very smoothly.

Exhausted only has ten posts, so i didn't think he had seen it...;) :D :D How about this one?

EXHAUSTED 08-30-2002 09:09 AM

Didn't Actually Build

I bought the bare hull and rigged it. The hull tag said it was made by Hi-Tech Marine in New York, but I couldn't reach them even back then. Wish I'd have kept it now, grandson could use here shortly.

Try www.bobsmachine.com Mini Jack plate $99.00 holds up to a 40 HP engine. I think it has around 5 inches of vertical lift, and a 4" setback. Weight is 12 pounds.

About to go out early morning, when Tampa Bay was calm.
Did about 38mph, had 2 18/08 woven roven and 1 layer of mat
next to gel coat, had a plastic tank behind seat. Had a 25hp short
shaft. My friend in West Palm has it now.

Does anyone remember the old MINI ALLISONS? It's the one on the left......;)

mcollinstn 09-02-2002 09:42 PM

Allisons?

sure.
They came in flatbottom 13' and 14'. Then came padvee 13,14,15,and 17.

The 13s usually ran with 50s the 14s usually ran with V4's but a few ran inline 6 mercs. 15'ers almost always ran inline 6 mercs and I know of two that ran T2X's here in middle TN. 17'ers were hotrod inlines and t2's.

A buddy dragraced a 14'er with an F2000 V6 Merc. Wasn't a good dragboat but was a dang fun playboat. One drag run out of 5 was straight enough to stay in the gas thru the whole 1/4.

Allison currently makes a 20' hotrod. Paul Allison built all the little clrcle track boats. His son Darren/Darius/D-something makes the bassboats and the different variants of the 20' rocket.

thespy, I guess you already know this but there is a picture and small story of your boat (38') in the book muscle boats, published in 1988. It says greg chu from ny bought it off the floor of the 87 ny boat show and was the first tg to be equipped with mercruiser 420 setup. Pretty cool.

Ike 09-03-2002 04:07 PM

ttt

thespy 09-03-2002 04:53 PM

I love that book, I tell all my friends I am a centerfold. I had about 50 hours on the boat then. I have had the boat since new. I only have one mini left, its yellow and lighter than the others, but I saving that one for a rainey day project.

Greg

Ike 09-03-2002 05:18 PM

Greg that's awesome that you have had your boat since new and that it still looks like it did in 87. What power does it have now? in the book it says hawk racing team on the side.

thespy 09-04-2002 08:09 PM

I have a rebuilt set of 420's which I built myself, I put a new set of dart heads on. The Hawk Racing decals where on the boat when I got it, they have been replaced with OSO decals. :)

JnT 02-01-2003 09:11 PM

With the price of gas going thru the roof does anyone have any leads on these mini boats?

HyperBaja 02-01-2003 09:21 PM

I see quite a few of you now have these for sale.... If you have one within 6 hours of Ohio, for around 1000-2000, PM me please

1986 Mini Hawk

birdog 02-03-2003 07:59 AM

thats it ! Is it for sale ?

GeoGraphics INC 02-03-2003 08:11 AM

The original Mini Hawks were made by Billy Spedaro in Patchogue N Y For Hawk Racing Team ( Nicholls Yacht Sales) the first three were made to look like Betty Cookes Kaama race, boat Jerry Jacobys Super Brut and the Manhattan Express, they were built to go against the Cougar Cub and were 13'long we had a deal with Mercury to rig them with 25's, this would be 82 or 83 if I remember correctly
