Mini Cigarettes
Been seeing some "mini cigarettes" for sale lately and wondered if anyone here knows anything about them.Paradise is one manufacturer and I saw one a while back whose owner claimed it was built by Formula. Thanks for any info on these little boats.
|
I have one, But it is not a true Cigarette eventhough it has Cigarette decals on it, It is 13'4"long and is a true V bottom with a 24 deg deadrise and looks exactly like a scaled down flat deck Cigarette, The hull weighs about 250lbs and has a 50HP Merc on it (it's rated for 25HP :) I plan on splashing it for the first time this weekend.
|
There is one for sale here on the board, go to the classifieds and look under "Misc. V's" or "All Other Makes" I can't remember! I think it's a 14ft Hawk.
|
I remember seeing one just like lee's. This one also looked just like a cig. Even had the correct decals on the side. I believe that this one had a small block though.
|

Fast and Fun with a 25/hp. I will post some pics . |
Looking forward to those pics!Thanks
|
I have a 13' Mini Hawk..
Would love another one. Mine is a 1986 with a 25 Merc. Its fun and grabs attention for sure. Like anything I wish I had more power and a new prop! Its for sale if anyone is interested. I paid $2200 for it a few years back if you're wondering what these things cost. |
RE: MINI HAWKS >>> Lest the cat contingent be forgotten, BAJA made/sold a 13' mini-cat that was designed by MOLINARI called the SCAT-CAT......I bought one for my son a few years back. With a 25hp johnson, a tweaked prop, and a few other set -up trix, it would go 33+-mph and looked like a mini skater...He loved it!!! He has outgrown it and if any of you are interested let me know.....FOR SALE CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AS for the mini hawk question, I don't know what company was responsible, but there were other boat companies that made their own mini boats... They were way popular 1984-1991.......
|
Velocitoy, send me some info on you little boat. I have seen those before, not bad!
My title says MINI HAWK is the Manufacturer. Not sure who originally made the mold. Where do I get a better prop for it? |
I've got a Baja Scat-Cat, last year it was a pisser w/60hp and this year it should be a death trap. I just finished rigging up a 115 w/power t&t, put it in the water and it floats but the lower squeal's like a pig and grinds, so hopefully next weekend. Also have a 14 ft magnum missle that's a basket case. God these little cats are fun!
|
Velocitoy Could you please send me some info on your cat, and some pictures if you have any. Where are you located? I sent you a PM, Wasn't sure if you got it.
Thanks, Kirk |
Tempest made a load of those little V's.Looked like a cig 35 flat deck.
|
My mini looks like it came out of the same mold as that Mini-Hawk but mine was made in Canada by a company called Banzai.
NJScarab, Your Magnum Missile is actually 16' long, And it is believed that there were less than 30 ever produced, Check out Magnum's website hereMagnum Here is a picture of my 1968 Magnum Missile (for sale) |
Keeps telling me that the pic is invalid?
It is a jpg and it is smaller than the max size allowed here? |
you need to make the pixel size smaller

Hey Spy-man,
Way too cool! You ought to add an R-C gas version now. Something like the 46" Enforcer Gator. http://www.whobbies.com/gator.htm Just paint it up to match again. Then you'd have 3 scales. Now that's just the sh*t!!! Scott |
Oh mannn. I can't believe I just posted and didn't realize the pun. It's perfect. Enforcer Gator becomes "InstiGator 3"!

Love the InstaGator. My friend has an electric Cig Tiger, but I love the Gas ones. Here's a pic of my little one. It's only 10' long with a fairly flat bottom. Has a 35hp Chrysler and goes 38.8 on GPS. For sale for $1350 OBO.

The original "Mini Hawk" I believe was only 10ft in overall length. They were great lil' boats but real tight in the cockpit.
If anyone is interested in a larger cockpit and a mini vee that can handle REAL ROUGH WATER find yourself a BULLET 130. There is a used one in my Classifieds @ www.sharkeymarine.com They are such a blast. This particuliar boat below has finished two years in a row at the NY HUDSON RIVER POKER RUN. Now there is some rough water.....   Jimmyz27 I see you are new to the board. Welcome to the board!!! If you want to see more pics of this boat, click onto my LINK for my site and checkout "BIG AIR SHOTS" & "BOAT BUILDING" pages. It may be of interest to you. If you are gonna be running in some heavy chop, this boat eats it up. Just ask anyone that has ever owned one or seen me drive mine.....;) |

I've got a small boat that is labeled a "mini offshore". It's a Challenger offshore 176xl. It's made in Canada by Noremac (now Grew). It has a 4.3 alpha I. Top speed is around 60 but it will cruise all day at 45-50 on no fuel. It has been a fun boat for my son. He moved from a SeaRay jet to this boat. There is no comparison.

Here's a pic of the cockpit. There is a pad in the front for lying down or getting out of the weather. Neat set-up for such a little boat.
|
aabfeh, That's a cute one, can you tell me more. How much, length, web site or phone number. Might be a nice upgrade from my sons 12' jet. Thanks.
|
Marty-
This is a 1999 model. When I bought mine the company was called Noremac Marine. It's now Grew mfg. I'm not sure if it was just a name change or the company changed hands. Try Grewmfg.com for detailed info. This boat is called a Challenger XLX 180. I did just what your thinking about. An upgrade for my son. As I mentioned earleir, there is no comparison between this and a jet. This ones smooth and gets up and goes. Extremly good mid-range cruise. My son can also spend all day cruising and skiing and not use 20 gal of gas. He's starting to think about going slightly bigger so mines probably for sale. Contact me. |
Back in the mid 80's. Kaama built 13' Hawks, and Cougar Cubs. They put 40 horse Tohatsu's on the cubs, and actualy created a little racing circut for them. The Hawks had 25 Merc's. I took a Hawk to the Parker strip once. I don't know if the set up was wrong, but it was a porpousing SOB.

Mini Cigarettes
You guys should have been at Manhasset Bay on Saturday August 17. At the awards ceremony, Rosebud Racing with Aronow Offshore ran a true Mini Cigarette in R/C version. It was in fact a minature of the original The CIGARETTE. - hand layed glass, stringers, bulkheads, foam, etc., powered with a gasoline engine that enabled it reach speeds into the 60s.
|
FYI: WRANGLERBOATS.COM bought the scat-cat molds from BAJA and is worth a look if you want to buy new.....aabfeh...went to GREWMFG.COM and had a look......Not a lot of info tho .....Is yours a MERCRUISER I/O or JET??? What kind of $$$ are we talking about? It sounds like yours might be for sale....PM me with stats & $$$....THANX>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Anyone have any experience with the 13' Checkmate Playmate ?
We had an '87 with a 60hp Merc. Ran about 40mph. The motor never quite ran right and needed some money one year, so sold it. I'd love to find another one for my husband. Maureen |
Maureen, Those Checkmates were neet little boats, I've been keeping my eye for one. I beleive Checkmate sold the molds for them. Take a look at this boat, it looks very similar.
