Should be a great event for a great cause. I'm going to do whatever I can to attend in some capacity.

Nate5.0 03-14-2014 10:17 AM

In am sure I can not make it sadly but man that is an event that should be wonderful to attend.

carter38 03-17-2014 10:33 AM

Going to be an awesome run!

WARPARTY36 03-17-2014 01:18 PM

I'm in with the Cig! The Verados won't make much noise at the dock, but I'm sure we can pump some of Brad's favorite music through the stereo to make up for it:coolcowboy:

Knot 4 Me 03-17-2014 02:44 PM

Wife talked to the folks at Ugly John's on Saturday and they said the phone has been ringing off the hook since this was announced. We have a house rented for the weekend.

Keytime 03-17-2014 02:57 PM

Great idea. Should be able to make it.

RebarBox 03-17-2014 05:22 PM

We are in. If any out of owners need a place - our VRBO on Honey Creek is still available for that weekend.

Sounds like a reason to haul the boat across the country again :)
I have only been on Grand lake once but don't have any idea where is the best place to stay
any help would be appreciated.

Our VRBO number is 489896. If you're bringing a boat for the run - you can tie it to my dock at no additional cost. We are just right across the street from this rental.

Would love to be there with Slim - just too far from CA.
Slim Shady is the sixth and last boat on the gif below.

HiPerf360 03-19-2014 03:41 PM

I'll be there with Q's old Smith XR's and ready to make some noise!

LV 03-21-2014 06:19 AM

TWO people died that day in the same boat at the same time. Has everyone forgotten about Jeff Asbell?

Absolutely not. This is a fund raising benefit for Brads children's college fund where there is a need. Jeff's family is in a much better position financially.

Wish I could be there. Brad and Jeff were both great guys.

thirdchildhood 03-21-2014 09:45 AM

I understand all that but it could still be called the Brad Smith/Jeff Asbell Memorial Poker Run to benefit Brad's children. That's all.

Keytime 03-21-2014 04:46 PM

Absolutely no disrespect to Jeff Asbell because he seemed like a d*mn good guy, but I think the poker run is named in Brad's honor because he directly influenced and worked with many performance boaters on the water. It's not to say he's more important, but rather his loss has more directly influenced those involved with the poker run and those in this sport/activity.

IMO, it's like Steve Ray Vaughn's helicopter crash or any situation like that. How often are Eric Claption's bandmates mentioned who passed in the same accident? His influence was more directly felt on the general public. The other victims are no less important.

I've seen this come up before and I hope everyone realizes that a memorial as such certainly doesn't imply that Jeff's passing was any less tragic than Brad's.

nova26 03-22-2014 09:39 AM

We have it marked on the calendar! Is there any recommendation for lodging?

Then organize one and name it accordingly.

thirdchildhood 03-22-2014 08:30 PM

I said my opinion. Enjoy the run. I will not forget Jeff Asbell.

Brads family has a house on the lake and he spent almost every weekend on it with his family when he wasn't working. I see your point for sure but I think this one in particular is to honor Brad and his family, Brad did a whole lot for the Grand lake community and spent a lot of nights and weekends to make sure most of us got to go boating. But I can promise you we will all be thinking about them both, I'll have my Brad and Jeff Memorial shirt on over the course of the weekend. I would love to see a fun run at Jeff's home lake on LOTO in his honor to represent some sort of children's charity, he was a softy when it came to kids ! he was just a good dude!

Thanks for the acknowledgment. It was a double tragedy for sure. Enough said. Enjoy the run guys and keep it safe! :)

Just so everybody knows there is 91 ethanol free Fuel at several other marinas on the lake, one marina has carried 110 but not sure if they will be this year. I will check and find out and report back for those that are interested?

Helt 04-16-2014 04:41 PM

Arrowhead just around the way also has 93 w/ethanol.

Hey Larry, could you check to see if that marina will have the 110 octane? Not sure how much fuel I will need and would prefer not to tow there full of fuel.

Thanks,

GT

carter38 04-17-2014 02:51 PM

John said he has a empty tank and if there is enough interest he will fill it with 110.
