What do you mean it doesn't add up ? The math is right on.
I don't have anything to do with the boat , it is a friend of mines.
He had those small blocks in a 85 Wellcraft Nova w/ two RH Alphas and no hydraulic steering. That boat went 73-74 and was a handful !
He came across this Scarab with no motors and got a killer deal on it. But since he is building a house didn't want to part with the cash to build BB's so he freshened this SB's up and thru them in. They've got to be making around 400 hp. I can't believe the boat runs that good either.
Oh well some people get lucky ! hopefully some of that will rub off on me when I get my motor back together.

It's no secret I'm a SBC fan! I think it's great he's seeing those kind of speeds with that boat.
I'm on my second boat with twin SBC power- first (still own it) is a '86 F242LS Formula with Alphas- 355's I built myself that runs 68.7 GPS fully loaded with full fuel (100 gals) and weekend overnight gear, 2 people.
The new toy is a '99 Active Thunder Savage- stock 350MagMPI's/Bravos that runs slightly over 70 fresh water, 73 salt.
I don't doubt those speeds on the Scarab- the newer technology in building these boats has lightened them up a lot! I haven't personally weighed the two, but going by mfg. specs, my 4 foot longer AT is over 1000# lighter than my Formula! (there is NO wood in the AT anywhere)
There are stroker/blower SBC's in the AT's future.

I agree the technology is there to lighten boats up, but scarab has not taken advantage of that. here's the specs a brand new 33 scarab AVS (which is a 31 footer with a built in platform) weighs in at 8400#'s that's almost as much as a standard 37 active thunder! But that boat runs great and rides awesome for the size. A brand new 38 scarab AVS weighs in at 9800#'s. A new Top Gun weighs 9300#'s and a new Hustler weighs 8500#'S. Don't get me wrong I love scarabs but they are heavy boats. Which is not always a bad thing.

Scarab's are definitley HEAVY boats... why do you think it takes almost 700hp to make my little 26 run 80 but I can run 80 in some pretty rough stuff.

26 scarab I just want to make sure we are talking about the same boat. It's been at hide a way harbor all year right? I was there last night and didn't see it. Do you keep your boat there? The guy told me it's the only one on the lake with small blocks so it has to be that one.

I was there last night ! From about 6:00 to 9:00 working on my engine... my boat is still sitting in the parking lot. I keep my boat at home but my friend Lenny runs Millennyum marine which is the shop there, and that' were we all do our work .

My friends own the 27 Excalibur (white /red) and another friend owns the 27 Fountain (blue stripe) .

I was back there drinking beer at about 9:30 last night with the owners of the Excalibur.

I was there working on the swim platform of the patriot from about 5:30-8:30. Are your friends up there a guy and girl. I forgot there names. I think I know the boat and people they are really nice. She gave me a beer when she saw me sweating so much.

He works for Tyler Crockett. He got a steal on the boat. Have you ran it yet ? It runs pretty good. I just talked to him and he told me you were there just before I got there.

I have the red Dodge that was in the lot by the shop. My boat was parked next to Lennys US1 flag boat.

If this is correct a boat running a 32 pitch prop at 48oo rpms is faster that a boat running a 28 pitch at 5300?
