lil red, engine builder is a close friend, building engines all his life 25+years up to 1500hp. automotive mainly. I did the tear down and supervised assembly. He did not make much money on engine build. I think the supervision part cost me the most money.

With all due respect, cutting the machine shops / engine shops balls off on the parts isn't really a great way to start a relationship.

So the engine builder is going to figure out all the parts needed, such as cranks, cams, pistons, springs, valves, rockers, push rod lengths, and so on. Then give this info to the owner and hope he orders the right stuff. I see this being a huge problem. Some parts have to be ordered when you get to certain parts of the build and waiting on the owner you will never get anything done.

Supplying your own cover material and supplying an engine builder with parts might just be two different things.

I agree with ya about sitting down with a builder and going through a parts list together. Then finding the best solution for your budget and build. If you have a GREAT relationship with the builder he may be able to get parts cheaper than someone calling for parts
