You did the right thing, as it was said before it's the cost of doing business. I'm not wallowing in money but at least what I do make is done with integrity, I wouldn't feel right just keeping it.

Just curious, was a contract to purchase signed along with the acceptance of the deposit?

Very nice gesture,,,,,,,,,, and maybe it saved you the aggravation of finding out he put a stop payment on it

Besides even thou I don't have the bad luck like Gino I could just see his check bouncing and mine to him getting cashed
I'll just put it down as I had a good boat ride
And hell they did buy me lunch

Yeah now I feel better plus this weekend at desert storm I won't have to be dreading turning the boat over to someone on Sunday
I know it will sell or maybe something will come up and I won't need to sell it

You did the absolutely right and honorable thing. The measure that you applied will be (someday) applied to you. I will hope that when you do sell your boat you will get this back plus a little more. Good things do happen to good people.

Safe boating

regardless of what I think you should do or might do myself what does the law say you can do?? That's the real question! If you plan to refund 100% no problem but my guess is that if there wasn't some sort of document outlining what the deposit represented & what the penalty or grace period was you might be hard pressed to keep any of it.

I'm no lawyer but I try to think like one!

Just a random thought.....the guy wasn't named Big Scotty, Chris Sunkin or Jim Darr was it? :D :D :D

Karma is not something to play with.

What you spent vs. the overall cost of everything when the deal is done is peanuts and I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around.

Good move returning the check because in the big scheme of things.

You could always return half so you look like a good guy. Call one of the other buyers and tell them its still available and take $500 off for making them wait. Keep $500 for your expences and you look like a great guy to both people. You sell your boat and keep everyone happy......Sorry worked with criminals for a long time.
