Drive service question
What is done when you rebuild an XR drive (assuming the upper gear set is good)? What have you paid for this service? I am showing some silver slivers, the drive is 5 years old behind 600ft/lbs torque. Is this something I can do if I have not done it before?

If you have never worked on a drive or had someone teach you the specifics, then it is not something I'd recommend.
Chances are at 5 years old, the gear sets are going bad. |

The slivers is usually gear tooth surface material being torn away. Be thankful of the 500hrs you've enjoyed to date & allow someone w/ experience to rebuild them. I don't believe it's difficult but they require special tools as well as knowing how to shim & preload bearings etc.

I have a brand new Mercury XR upper gear set, if you are interested for $1475+ freight.

For just the gear set or have I misread that?

Wow, I guess I never realized how much of a $2000 rbld was just the gear sets!

Where did 500 hrs come from? Very low hrs....like 50. I'm trying to figure out the rebuild cost without gears. 5 years old.
