Actually both are in theory.. but the Scarab is set up for just runnin not to go fast.
I put VR1 30w in last year, hard to find. Might switch over to 20w-50

The VR1 advertises high zinc content for flat tappet motors, but since you have roller cams, that is of little benefit to you.
FWIW, I bought the VR1 20-50 for my bikes, not for the boat.

I'm not trying to high-jack, or lead this thread down a rocky path, but if the motors are carbed, the issue of fuel dilution comes into play... Hence, Mercury recommends straight weight oil over multi-viscosity. Per everything I've read, the Mercury 20-40 Full synthetic isn't multi-viscosity in the traditional sense of containing viscosity improvers, it's a "blend" of 20w and 40w oils. They also advised against synthetics until they marketed one.

If any cares 15 w -50 Mystik synthetic blend Super heavy duty engine oil in 8 qt jug (2 gallons jug) for 24.95 at OReilly's till the April 29th. This oil is rated CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS CH-4, CH and SL and you know SL rated means more zinc & phos compared to SM / SN rated. For the money that's a great buy at close to 3 bucks a qt. I think Mystik oil is a Citgo made oil. Anyways just passing that along.
