Guess the mentality here is "It will never happen to me" or " It was fluke and hypothetical", guess what everyone is trying to say or at least I hope is, we all have family's and anytime we go out the objective is to come back in one piece uninjured.... and if you don't think it won't happen to you ask some family's that lost love ones because they weren't wearing a PFD..... but since I don't own a big boat or go 100+ MPH I don't know what I am talking about.
Accidents happen and I almost lost my oldest son to one |

The guy in the front is drunk enough to be wearing one, but the rest are able to stand so they shouldn't require one.

It's boating season BTW. Save this crap for winter. Maker's Mark is the only choice for this crap. |

I've been following this thread some due to the safety issues at hand. I've always thought that kids 12 and younger ALWAYS had to have life jackets on while "underway" or they have to be inside the cabin. Today I was looking around Googling to verify this and I am stumped now. Here is what I found so far.....
California: What age must wear PFD: 12 years of age or younger. Vessel Length: 26 feet or less. When PFD Must be Worn: Approved PFD Styles: Type I, II, III or V Exceptions when PFD does not need to be worn: If the child is in an enclosed cabin, or on a sailboat if restrained by a harness tethered to the vessel. Link HERE So.....if your boat is over 26 feet in length, a lifejacket isn't required to be worn?:confused::confused: On this same page: PFD Wear Requirements for Children by State In states where no children's life jacket law is in place, a U.S. Coast Guard interim rule requires children under 13 on moving boats to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket that fits. This rule does not change or supersede the existing law in states which have life jacket laws, it only applies to states that have no laws. Please see the list below for the latest laws in your state. Please note that these laws provide boaters with the minimum age that a child is required to wear a life jacket. It is still a parent's responsibility to decide if a child should wear a life jacket, even in situations where the law does not require it. |
