thinking about moving to Miami
Hey Everybody!!!!
I've grown tired on NY. And am thinking about moving to Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale. I'm not ready to up and leave just yet BUT i am investigating how the job market is down there. If anyone knows of any marinas (performance oriented or not). Or any jobs in the marine industry please let me know. I would love to work as a broker or something along those lines. I would also work as a webdeveloper (what i'm currently doing). SO if you hear about any openings please drop me a line or if you know of any websites or papers that list openings in the marine industry that would be very helpful as well. Its appreciated as always. -puder |
I'll look into the Bimini thing again for you sometime this week. Wanna come over and help me drink mud slides in the mean time? You can edit the Point Pleasant photos for me.

tempting!!!! i have some errands to run i will call you in a few hours i have to be in NYC tonigh so i might take you up on that offer.
Bimini would rule!!!! Witeh money i save by getting out of NY i can get that apache i've been wanting :D |

Lots of yacht brokers in FLL, they always have openings for someone with experience/knowledge/youth/enthusiasm!(any of the above):D
It is real easy to obtain employment here......if you live here, especially if you have some marketable skills, speaking spanish is always a plus. although speaking english is sometimes an advantage as well:confused: You should just come down here, rent a place for 6 months, pretend you are here to stay and see if you like it. |
Puder, we should talk - I have this idea ...........................

Puder If you are good at what you do and have knowledge, there is plenty of jobs here in both the marine and internet biz.
As a matter of fact I think SO. Fla, leads in both, but you better be sharp!;) Living here is great, I gave up freezing my A$$ off in NY awhile ago. Come down and join the fun.:D BG XO |
damn skippy i couagth that one stinson!!!
FYI i missed the manhasset poker run. I will be at the glen cove poker run thats actuallytake place in the town i live in. I blew up the tranny on my truck on my way home from virginia and after a 13 hours drive i wasn't goign to wake up at 7am after 3 hours of sleep. I love boats but i needed some sleep!!! BatGirl, when are you racing your bat boat again???? Gotta love it when the ladies come to race!!!! I actually fell in love the other day yeah she must have been about 50 but it was cool because she was driving a spankinnew ferrari 456 :D Like i said ladies and fast cars/boat :D |
Take you time and seriously think about it.
Do what georges said, try it for a wile before you move permenenlty. And speaking spanish would defenitely be a big plus if you plan on living in Miami (I'd never live there), or anywhere else for that matter. Mike Merola, We did exactly that, left Beachwood for sunny skies and a fresh start. Got tired of the B.S, pollution, hospital trash washing up on the beach, red tide, Ciba-Giegy and cacer, conaminated well water, etc. We were running for our lives. Now we're tired of this place. Orlando/ Kissimmee is not where we want to be anymore. Tired of the heavy tourisim. We thought Seaside Heights/Park was crowded in the summer, this place does tripple the volume 27/7/365. It's getting hard just to drive to work. What used to take me 15min to drive now takes 40 and all I travel is 12 miles. Lately we've been seroiusly thinking about moving back to Toms River/Beachwood or maybe the west coast of FL. We'll see. |
lauderdale is much higher on the list than miami. I speak some spanish and if i was around it i would remmber some more hell i took spanish for 6 years.
|
Hola mi amigo , que es su programming talente ?? i never took spanish :)
pm your # ..... |
Iggy,
That's one of MANY reasons that we live on M.I.! I live 40 miles from work and it takes me about 45 minutes to drive! Nice, quiet, easy living! MD |
Puder,
There is a Manatee farm in Homestead that needs a director. |
Puder,
I am making the jump in 10 days. I am currently looking for a place to live in FT Myers or Coral Gables. I accepted a offer with a consulting firm. Hey , you only live once and you can always move back. I am 26, single and staying warm this winter in FL:p WILL |
tanned fat, You got thier number. A friend i used to dive with in Belize used to "fish" for manatees in the 70s before it was illegal Says thier damn tasety.
27 fountain, when i get down there i'll race you in the 24' beaker :D |
puder, Lauderdale is great. I have lived here since '86 and if you love boats, which I think you do as a member of this forum, you will love it. Good jobs in both the marine industry as well as computers. Good luck.

I'm still looking for more input. |
Puder,
I think I will be actually living in Bonita Springs on the Imperial River. Right between Ft Myers and Naples. Been on the phone today hagling down movers and places to reside.:p I will be down there in less than one week. ;) WILL |
you suck!
|
The Blues are running year round in Bonita Springs....
|
Puder... whats your expertise..? programming or graphics....?
|
a bit of both and throw in server management and networking to boot :D
i do all my own design programming and hosting. |
mark sorry i forgot to call you back i flaked out. I've been tryign to figure out what the hell is going on with my engien and that whole mess all day.
|
No prob....I do have a few things going on that I WILL need someone with your skills full time in the not to distant future....it could get chaotic quick
|
As far as moving ....I'm thinking somewhere between St Pete and Bonita Springs myself....a lot less hectic than the east side and more than enough water....just have to dump a couple stores and I'm gone...
|
St Pete
This place gets my vote. Dad lives there. My wife says its TOO HOT.
|
Only if your bi-lingual
|
I live in Miami Beach and I love it there are tons of hot girls everywhere the boating is 100 times better down here than in Ft Lauderdale. Down here you have biscayne bay and Elliot KEy and lots of places to go as fast as you want. the cops are more relaxed than in Broward. Up there you are either in the intracoastal or out in the ocean which sucks if the wind is blowing. Come down and check it out I'm sure many of us who live down here would be happy to show you around myself included.
Paul |
PSTORTI: i might take you up on that offer. I think I am heading down mid october for a car race. I forget which series it is but i know i was planning on heading down for it???
|
Puder,
I live in N. Miami Beach and I can tell you I am so out of here. Been looking at property in Lighthouse Point, Pompano, and the Lauderdale and surrounding areas. The Keys and the Bahamas are the place to go boating. Miami and Elliott are fun but get old after a few visits. You are also welcome to stay with me when you are in town if need be. If I were you I would stay in the computer field, the only way to become a millionaire in the marine business is to start off with three. OSO |
If moving down there I would opt for Lighthouse Point...lived there for many years...inlet is close , fuel right there. A nice place to live ...
