28' with twin 496HO's

I want to hear your opinions. I have a 2004 28' PQ Sport Cruiser with twin 496HO's. I've heard that it's too much power/torque for a 28' boat and I've also heard that it's fine. I don't know who to believe. This is going on the third season I've owned her and I've had no major issues with the hull or engines. Of course I rarely take her above 4500 RPM's as I usually just like to cruise at a steady 3000 - 3500 RPM. Has anyone ever seen this type set up on a 28' boat, pluses/minuses? Be gentle now as we do love the boat. lol

No such thing as too much power/torque. You'll be fine.

It came from the factory that way........ Good engine for performance, reliability, and safety - which is what that boat was made for. It won't turn heads with its speed but it will get up and go and be comfortable to ride in.

How tight is it in the engine compartment with the twin big blocks. I have twin small blocks in my formula 280 and it isnt too bad, another 50-75 hp a side would be nice.

It's tight, but you can still manage.

you can't compare length without the rest of the boat. Where 496's might be a bit much for a smaller 28 with narrower beam the PQ it shouldn't be a big deal. the beam is over 9 foot isn't it?

Yes, it has a 9'2" beam.

not sure what your concern is?

I agree--- what is the concern? You've stated that you've had no issue but you've been told that its "to much torque and power" its 28ft, has a 9'2" beam @ 8100lbs dry --- and with the 496's HO's it seems that it would be great package for a family boat
