Do these straight bottom rides run about the same speed to their stepped bottom cousins when running in the open ocean, where they are airing out on a regular basis? If so, it seems that purchasing a straight bottom boat at a reasonable price, would be perfect if running in the ocean is it's main purpose. The reason I ask, is im thinking of getting a Vee with a cabin just for ocean running. Kind of just thinking out loud. It just seems there are so many great deals on boats that are maybe a generation older in design .

And sum biotch if it aint that same man again. Was he the best or just the most determined? In any event Reggie holds more of the big numbers than anyone on the planet, and likely will for a whole lot of years to come. Love him, or hate him, you can not take away what he has done. |
The CGS Velocity was fast , she was built to be a race boat .
|
Past records are cool and that Velocity sounds amazing but...........
Who currently has the fastest Straight V that is together and running????? :boat: |
If Coolerman's Black Thunder is a straight bottom , he runs 140's if I remember right
|
Coolermans boat is amazing! But its a twin step

Excess Energy is almost finished with a 41' Velocity that should run north of 120 mph . His project is powered by Ford PSI motors , should be in the water by the end of June
|
I believe this is the build you are talking about.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/v...-upgrades.html Absolutely amazing! It's a shame these type of build threads are hidden all over OSO. |

Just got word the CGS is almost done. It got a fresh paint job. Got rigged with #5's and the N/A 900's are gonna be put in it really soon. It wont be the fastest V anymore but I bet the old girl still runs in the teens with its new set-up.
|
wow that's nucking futs
|
Would like to see how "Smokin' Joe" would do with staggered 1650's and some 8's
|
Yep, ours is a twin step. Bobs 41 Velocity should put up some good numbers, and so should Jason's 43 with arnesons. I think the only thing that would hold back these two kick ass boats for an all out speed number is that they are side by side and not staggered..... But, the side by side is much nicer for recreational use. It's always a trade-off!
|
Side by side doesn't seem to slow down a velocity due to the pad bottom. We discussed this earlier in the week. EEs boat could go way over 120. Will the 5s even hold up?
|
Well with all this top speed non step V talk, it looks like I need to buy some PSI's!!!
For those that cannot see my sarcasm font, I am being sarcastic! |
The sarcasm font is generally "Comic Sans MS" for future reference.

This is pretty good question. I would have to imagine the fastest straight bottom V would have to be over the 115-120 mph mark. Since there is a few sabers and apaches that are talked about running in the 105-115 mph range. If 115mph is the mark to beat, I may be awful close in my BT!!!

i'm pretty sure you are incorrect. in fact, you are wrong. the winner would be steve stepp with the record winning cgs ferocious velocity in the 134mph boat done back in the mid 90's like ray just pointed out. yup, he's the man when it comes to making a straight bottom go fast. gotta give credit where credit is due.
Not so sure about that, Steve Stepp has the record for being the first to run 100 MPH a bunch of years ago in a 30' Velocity hull, I say has in that being first still holds today. If Steve has some record of note for the 134 in CGS then I may have missed that, perhaps you could post up a link to the official record. I believe the question was looking for something documented. On any given weekend afternoon someone on a small lake or river down south runs 120 plus in a 20 something Allison or Hydrostream. Record run? Well for the boat owner I am sure it means a lot, to the APBA or other sanctioning bodies, not much. |

I'd rather know which boats are still assembled and running the number. |

This one is crazy....139mph!! Although not strictly on topic as this particular boat I think has steps.........not that they would add anything IMO from photos that I have seen as it runs with about 6 inches of hull in the water |

I also know Mike Warpath in the US has that thing that's around 21-22ft with twin blown motors in it! Not sure on its max speed but it would be stupid fast I'm sure! |
