Used Duct tape on a tow down to Virginia and some of the clear coat came off when I yanked it off.

Spicy - be sure to wrap that tape all over the windscreen under the cover. My Top Gun clear windscreen got wasted by the cockpit cover from a recent 800 mile haul...won't do that again!

My boat was delivered with the cover taped on. What a mess!
I would not use tape again. I still have cr#p on the windshield years later.

If you want to have a cover designed specially for towing. Some like to use a seal on the front edge, twist lock snaps, air vents, etc. If your worried about scratching your paint you can have the inside soft lined maybe with fleece etc. Canvas shops have some tricks but it cost big money.

My new boat came with special pin type fasteners along the front edge of the cover. You cannot pull them off. I tow with mine all the time and it never comes off at any speed. My old Baja had a cover that I tried towing with, it just had regular snaps. What a mistake... I could have killed someone when the cover flew off on the freeway at night. Luckily it missed the cars behind me. Could you imagine the lawsuit from a cover covering a car windshield and causing a major pileup? You really need special fasteners along the front and I would also never use tape only the shrink wrap stuff.

FYI, if your cover has snaps their are ones with stiffer spring wire in the snap its self which holds alot better so the cover wont fly off..i can run 80 mph from chicago all the way to florida and my cover wont budge..contact your canvas guy and have stronger snaps installed..

had a new cover made a couple seasons ago, old cover always pulled off at the front at the lower bend of the windscreen and would flap and beat the gel. discussed this with the cover shop and he had the new cover made with PULL THE DOT snaps on the front edge. they only lift off from one direction , haven't had a single snap release yet when towing. they told me they can replace existing snaps with these as well,

What width shrink tape does everyone use?

I lost a cockpit cover towing. Was able to go back and find it and have it repaired, but immediately got a full cover designer for towing after that.
