It'Monday,Who brke what
It's Monday and I was just wondering who broke what over the weekend.Isn't boating fun? How 'bout you Jayl13?
|
so far my new xz drive have lasted one weekend behind 970 hp how long do you think they will last lets post :D
|
From Sat's Emerald Coast Poker Run in Ft Walton Beach,Fl I saw a Bravo XR blow on a new 38 Fountain with 575's,Another XR on a new MTI cat with with 575's,an XZ on a 353 Formula with 500's. May have been more. Merc is real good on covering warranty but seems like it would be cheaper on them to make a drive that will handle the stock power they sell them with than to continue to pay claims.

I stayed home this past weekend because I have either broke or had somebody else break something on my boat (and trailer:mad: ) for the last 4 weekends I have been out:mad:
So, I am going to cross my fingers and try again this coming weekend:rolleyes: |
We got the boat running Sunday morning. Went out on the Hudson. 10 min ride, powered down, opened hatch for a peek and saw that alt. belt was very loose. Tried to tighten and found the bracket broke. So we cut the belt and continued. Got into some choppy water ran a little harder for some excitement and one motor lost all fuel pressure and stalled. Turned out to be loose grounds on the pump. Tightened them up and away we go. Another 5 min and both motors lost fuel pressure. Some how loosened back up. While tightening big wave came over the stern an splashed the motors. 1 motor fired the other did not. Pulled into a marina close by to try and find problem and discovered no spark, and after 1.5 hrs could not get one. Then we discover the drive pully on one of the prochargers is working itself off. Took the belt off(it was the motor that was running) and made the 3 hr. trip back to the ramp on 1 motor @ 10 mph.

I was hoping the XR's would provide a more reliable drive but they do not seem to hold up any better than Bravo Ones.
My 1992 336 SR1 Formula had 600 hrs on stock Bravos with 170 of which bolted up to 530hp motors. My new 382 has 140hrs on Bravos pushing HP500 EFI's, no problems yet. I know I am just one of the lucky few and my days coming. It seems that unless you are running number 6's you go out with your fingers crossed that your drives will get you home. |
Not boating related BUT I blew up my brand new Honda weed whacker
Went to tap the thing onto the ground to allow more string out and the whole spinner head went flying and now it is in the shop getting repaired. |
Rained all weekend........Didnt break a thing :D
|
I wish it would rain here:( So far this month we've only had a trace of rain. So let it rain Monday to Friday. Just be nice by next weekend.
|
Well I put 7 hrs on mine over the weekend and nothing broke :D :D It was surprising cause it spent most of the time WFO :D :D :D :D
oh i did forget.. I had a ground wire under the dash come loose.. had to tighten that up :D :D and I changed the oil.... |
Besides some loose screws, and the cuddy door, my new sony stereo totally astounded us this weekend! Once the shelf in which it is normally housed, came crashing down after a 6 footer just dropped us, the crazy thing kept playing a cd hanging by its own wiring harness:eek: Ithought for sure it was playing off memory---but no definitely the CD:cool:
Definitely a testimonial for the new sony mex deck. Now to tighten everything back up and make a new shelf! |
Installed a new MSD coil then went to test on the hose a found no water coming out the exhaust. Very bad thing. Shut every thing down and discoverd that the impeller was completly shot. I mean not a single vane still in place. Come to find out some of the pieces were in the bilge next to the pump. Previous owner or shop opened the housing pulled out the loose pieces and slapped it back together!!! WTF!!! I'm just glad I caught it when I did. Hopefully no engine damage (trying to type with fingers crossed)
Tracking down parts now. If anybody can help, chime in or PM me. Thanks, Travis |
My broken heart...
You guys are pretty die-hard. I love it when people call it like it is. "Ok it's monday, who broke what?" That's awsome. I guess we need to accept a fact that boats are just expensive holes in the water. And you know, even I'm not immuned in my 20 foot fiberglass bondo-bucket, for every time one of you guys blow by me at 100 mph, it's my heart that breaks.:(

I am happy to report that the worst thing for me this weekend was two dead batteries at the boat launch. I was blaming it on the automatic bilge, because the angle I keep the boat at the house doesn't let a small part of the bilge drain, and of course that is where the float switch is located. I pulled the battery out of the truck and replaced one in the boat and went on our way. After we got home and were cleaning the boat, I discovered that my swabbie (Debbie) had accidently turned on the cockpit lights when she was wiping down the dash last week. She didn't realize it was a three way switch, and she had turned it to the down (off) position.
Picture of the swabbie at the helm yesterday.:) |
That looks it a Formula  cuda

I have heard so many broke stories lately I nursed mine at 4200 to 4500 anddonly very short bursts of WOT...
Waiting on my turn! Oh and for once my stereo was still mounted when I got home, need a stronger L bracket in the back, this weeks project! Bryan |
The screws that hold the hatch ram to the transom pulled out, one of my step pad slats got broken, I have no idea how, the screws that hold my refridgerator fell out along with the fridge. I consider this a good weekend ! This is why I trailer my boat home, I need the week to get it back into shape and cleaned up for this weekend.
