Gear ratio 1:5:1 vs 1:36

Time to call B Blades

From my personal experience with bigger HP motors, the 1.36 was faster midrange to top end over a 1.50. 28 pitch on the 1.36 and 30 pitch with the 1.50. overall faster acceleration and 2 mph faster with the 1.36. Switching back to the 1.36 later this summer.

I believe that depending on each individual set up and overall desired performance it will vary as to what gear ratio will work best. Variables include single/twin, drive height, weight, step/straight bottom, prop type, and rake/cup, last but most important is HP/Torque. Problem is it gets real expensive real fast to "experiment" With all that rambling said my experience over the last 45 years of boating is that a properly "Tweeked" propeller for your gear ratio will make up for a host of other handling issues!
Wow! Sorry Guys, I think I just confused myself!

To edit my post I have to agree that more mid range with a smaller prop is more likely. But the low end and planing belongs to a bigger prop. Mid range and top end smaller prop

1:36 gear 26 labbed B1 prop pulls hard out of the hole and straight to top end like its azz is on fire . Strong cruise and great fuel economy to go along with this but of course not much drag with a cat .

Dr.pete, the boat was running 1:5:1 with 4 blade bravo 1 -32s with stock 575s, the motors were rebuilt- and Dynoed at 683hp @5600, they re geared the drives to 1:36 and spinning the same wheels but 30 pitch- boat GPSs at 96 mph- twin step, so it's set up right I believe, I was just concerned with longevity and dependability of the 1:36 gear ratio?
No issues with longevity with 1.36's.
I run 1.36 regular Bravos on my AT and tehy have alot of hours with no issues.
BBlades has posted about the specific differences in the prop section before.
