I had a gopro camera on my engine hatch with the stick on mount it left the boat in the long island sound. The base of the camera broke. Suction cup would be less ridged might still have the camera. Had some real good video but its gone.

That sucks. I always tie a rope to mine just in case, but that probably wouldn't even work if the damn thing just snapped!

Time to go diving! :fish:

get the 1/4 inch threaded adapter
and then go to a real professional level camera shop
you should be able to find a double suction cup mount like I use
its got a swivel that'll do anything!
a much better clamp is made by ManFrotto

ALWAYS use a tether / piece of string

and
hook up the gopro so it is ''''hanging''''
and flip the picture so it don't record everything upside down

when its upright the camera will eventually flop over
the choppier the water, the worse it is

Here's Johnny 11-25-2014 05:41 AM

these work well in case the camera comes loose......

I have had numerous Go Pro's and bought some Replay camera's after checking the out at PRI in Orlando, well I am now a dealer and can say these camera's are awesome, the mount's are solid. Easy to start, and use, video's in 1080i.

I also use the suction cup mount but made up some different length tethers just in case! Glad I did because the suction cup did let go once and if it wasn't for the tether it would be at the bottom of the Lake!

Here is a video I put together this summer!

This weekend will be the first time trying the GoPro on the boat, do you guys use the suction cup mount? What are you guys doing?

I use suction cups for just about everything because I want the quick release and move without the hassle of changing mounts. I have made my own mounting brackets for my camera dolly, boom rig, and tripods. It was as simple as a small piece of plexiglass attached to it is the shoe for the ball head I use for all of my cameras.

1st image shows the camera dolly with both a Go Pro and on the lower end a suction cup for my iPhone. It supports both cameras .

2nd & 3rd images are of my more serious suction cup that will be setup the same way but with a larger platform secured to it so that I can mount up to 6 or 8 or possibly more cameras at once for 360 degree recording. Something like this will be great to mount to the underbody of the R44 Helicopter. That is as long as it doesn't warp the metal on the chopper. The diameter on that suction cup is about 8 to 10 inches.

My camera of preference now is the iON . http://usa.ioncamera.com/ion/ION-Air...eo-Camera.html
