Gopro

This weekend will be the first time trying the GoPro on the boat so I can get some videos for our long crappy winters. Anyway, do you guys use the suction cup mount? I can use the rails but it would be easier to change views with suction mount. What are you guys doing?

1 MAIDEN AMERICA 05-30-2014 06:39 PM

I used the suction cup mount and put the camera right above the drain plug. It was still there when I got home. I also mounted it on the side. It got splashed and twisted but stayed. It's a great mount but still scary doing it in those places.

12meter joe 05-30-2014 07:13 PM

Good info. I have heard they're pretty stout but it seems scary!

We had a suction cup on the canopy in Cocca Beach it tore a 3" x 18" section of gel coat off.

:eekdrop: so you're saying they work! I can only assume you were hauling the mail at twice the speed I can lol.

Katanna 05-30-2014 08:17 PM

Just take me with you and I will hold it.

VoodooRob 05-30-2014 08:22 PM

We just had our first outing using a GoPro. Used the suction cup mount on the bow, no issue at all and some really nice video.

Anytime

12meter joe 05-30-2014 09:31 PM

Got the mount, and then proceeded to spend a bunch of unnecessary money at Best Buy! Gets me every time!

I hope you two birds are talking about cameras . :party-smiley-004:

We put ours on a stick to get different angles. You can only watch the bow mount for so long.

Ditto.
This was mostly stick mount.

Cool video and your boat is awesome!

elvisali 05-31-2014 05:00 AM

I use a seasucker mount, the go pro one is good, never have issues, but the seasucker is a little stronger in my opinion , but you lose the ability to adjust to all different angles

Definitely agree. I change the camera location a few times during the ride. I want to eventually put together a good video and need many angles.

BAD A$$ boat and video thanks for sharing.

HyFive578 06-01-2014 06:41 AM

I use the jaw clamp mount but also tie a small line around the mounting with the other end tied to a cleat or rail or something. It has never come free, but if it does, it's tied to something and I won't lose the camera..

I use a heavy duty suction cup I bought from eBay. Then I use a surf board stick on mount with a tether, just in case the suction cup lets loose..... This is a video from the 1st time I used my GoPro..... (Long Island Stampede).

The 2nd vid is from last weekend on a friends shakedown run. I used the suction cup and also a stick...... The sticks are great for ease of use but at speed are just to hard to keep steady.......

I used mine Memorial Day weekend for the first time. GoPro brand suction cup worked great.

Not sure I care much for the GoPro Studio software. It was a little "clunky" to use - and the built in templates are a little "restrictive".

Best software is Adobe Premier. Take a little effort learning but worth it.

Suction cup will have to be bought separate, they are about $30-$40. For the sd card you will want to get a class 10 with at least 32gb but 64gb would be better. A larger battery or extra batteries is a must if you plan on doing prolonged videos.

1989mach1 11-21-2014 08:50 AM

The mount I got off Amazon for half the cost and it is all medal instead of plastic. Works grate

VoodooRob 11-21-2014 08:58 AM

Get an extended battery, for us they last a whole Poker Run. If you use the remote your battery will deplete down very fast, so piggyback battery is a must. Always remove the second battery when charging, I know that some are pass thru charging but for some reason you do not get a full charge with both hooked together on the camera. Use the mobile app to connect to the camera once every so often and it will automatic load updates.

1989mach1 11-21-2014 09:29 AM

the app on your phone can also doubles as the remote if u don't want to buy one and the view shows up on the phone so u know what the camera is getting in the shot. I also set my camera up to shoot in 720p it is a good video and saves on space on the sd card. here is one of mine I put together

I have the GoPro brand suction cup, and I do not like it because the hardware attached to the suction cup rattles and distorts the sound, but it does stick pretty darn good, not so good on a waxed surface.

I use the bicycle seat mount one from GoPro, this one can mount to the railings, I mount this on top of my radar arch on the mast light, its easy to swivel 360 degrees in any direction..

If I do mount the GoPro where its bound to fall in the water then I always use a tether.

Do any of you Go Pro guys know of any place I can send one to be repaired? I have a Hero3 Black that has the charging port knocked clear inside the camera from a drone crash. The camera still works, you just can't charge it. I called Go Pro and they do not offer any type of repair service.

I would maybe call a camera shop in your area and see it they have the ability to fix it for you. Here is a link to a site that shows you how to take one apart if you are willing to give it a try on your own. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/GoPr...Teardown/12457

I bought the Black Edition last spring and used it all summer - got some killer footage! The GoPro suction cup does rattle a little bit, but I don't think it's distracting. If you tighten it up enough, you can pretty much put it anywhere (with a backup rope attached to it, just in case). I've put it on the bow, the swim platform, all over the cockpit, etc.

I have the 64gb memory card, but no extra battery. As long as you don't leave the wifi on and pay attention to the way you're using it, you can get by.

Here's the best of my GoPro footage from this year. Helps a Michigan guy like me get through the winter!
