That Cig 28SS sold to Ohio in 2010. The Michigan seller bought it in 2007 for $30k and barely used it for 3 years. It was dry and in good running order in 2010 with twin SBC 420 hp/piece. It looked nicer without the wrap.

Look up “baddd assss” in the dictionary and you’ll find this!

Agreed on the look w/o wrap.

If that indeed is the same 28SS the current owner ruined it.........spent money to make it worth less

There is an '84 Mistress in Bremerton, WA 98311 advertised for 4k. It's a project, but looks like it has good bones. I'd post a link, but haven't reached 10 posts yet.

Very rare.
Shocked it hasn’t already been posted on here.

That was listed a few months ago. I think I posted it in the Powerplay section. Had I not just bought my Sunsation earlier this year I would definitely have gone to see it -- but I wonder why it's back up for sale so soon.

Looks like some of the same pictures as the last ad.

People talk but I see a lot of I/O performance boats that are not selling. I think some of it has to do with nearly impossible to get loans unless you pay high interest rates. Just not what a lot of people want anymore.

And the very real issue of having any marine mechanic willing/able to work on them. If you're not a dedicated hobbyist and wrencher, good luck in your ownership experience.

thirdchildhood 08-05-2022 11:26 AM

The Powerplay must be a rather old model year being that the engines are carbureted.

Or some prior owner didn't want to play with EFI.

The last HP500 carb motor was available in 2000. Power play stooped building in 2004-2006?

05 I believe. But remember Dan would let you power your new boat with whatever you wanted. Guys were putting in Cobra 650s towards the end on the 38s.

That boat was out here for a while. The abbreviated version is the hull doesn’t have enough bow lift and isn’t a good ride at speed.
If you look down the steps they are angled down on the aft end, each acting like a trim tab that is down.
unfortunate because it’s a cool boat, with some nice pieces.
I think with mild power it would make someone a nice boat if kept under 90mph.

Hey the price isn't completely crazy but I'd love to know the last time that boat actually got wet and someone went diving off it! :D

Twin O/B Sonic 09-09-2022 02:31 PM

I like aluminum hulled stuff.

Used see one on Canadian side of Lake Erie from time to time.

Was identical to a 30’ something Fountain but made from tin!

Here's the boat in 2008 when it was sold by the Father-In-Law of the manufacturer. An acquaintance of mine in Sweden bought one and stuck twin big diesel in it and changed the cockpit for racing. The boat is famous in Europe. He sold it to replace it with an Outerlimits SV-52 with quad 600 hp Seatek diesel motors. It's a beauty. His Liq. Tech. SL44 went to Irland where it went on to set endurance records.

OSO thread at sale in 2008: https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ml#post2756823

Here's an article of my Swedish acquaintance SL44 that he sold to the boys in Ireland who founded 'Allblack Racing': https://www.redbull.com/nz-en/allbla...record-attempt

At least all the plumping is there.

Twin O/B Sonic 09-10-2022 06:45 AM

Way cool history Lars!

Thx for education.

Interesting to me also is that when anyone goes “Ocean” racing, they run diesels.

But over here in the states where it could almost be called sprint racing, it’s all gas motors.

i think that boat needed the extra weight of the diesels to make it run properly. With gas engines I think it was too light.

Twin O/B Sonic 09-10-2022 11:16 AM

That would make sense.

Would definitely be a big shift in center of gravity!

we call that boat the bismark,,it didn't go over the big waves,,it went thru them. and like unlimited said,,it needed bow lift badly.was a cool boat

Anybody want to guess what will happen if you fire that "completely legal" 50 cal. gun on the deck? And I don't care if it's only "gas powered." You're going to have more folks with more weapons aimed at you than you can shake a stick at real quick.

Twin O/B Sonic 09-13-2022 06:34 PM

But it started as a Bayliner!

What could possibly go wrong?

So its a tank green bayliner with a single screw and a 50 cal mounted to the deck and matching numbers? What numbers PT 143 on both sides?
you will be in position to fire .50 caliber machine gun that’s been converted to gas. Fires fast, loud, 18” barrel flash and completely legal. Also has 2 soft air M16’s mounted in rear. Misc supplies including matching numbers,

Gotta love the sellers w/a sense of humor.

Note the comment about the fence post holding the boat together :-)

I saw that boat the other day (very busy bridge is next to the marina). I'm guessing they are stockpiling inventory at that dealership for the winter boat shows (Oct is Lauderdale, Feb is Miami, March is Palm Beach). It is a very wealthy area but that style of boat is extremely rare to see. The restaurant next door is more likely to have a pair of Hinckleys at the dock than a lone I/O offshore boat.

This house is about a mile from that dealership:
Larry Ellison (Oracle founder) is flipping this house (paid 80mm 17 months ago,did nothing to the house):

It's all the way forward in the half cabin.

All I know about the price is that it's way out of my league.

Lots of cool hardware there and looks like they are building out a nice facility. I’m not a fan of all the chief branding on every boat, or that they are selling boats in use as new. But they had a lot of cool hardware to drool. I didn’t get a close look at the nighthawk, it was up the road.

The Chief dealership is in the Florida Keys, the boat that was posted by DrFeelgood is in Palm Beach Gardens, FL (Big Thunder Marine)
https://www.bigthundermarine.com/locations/36661

They Keys definitely need a performance boat shop, nobody wants to work on I/O stuff.
