This looks like a really nice 253.

You should really put a Baja 272 on your list
The last two feet are swim platform so it's more of a 25
Decent size salon with a bit of elbow room
Less then 5000lbs w/big block
They can hit low to mid 70's w/moderate power 500-550+-hp
One of our members here has a 1000hp and is knocking the door on 100mph
I've seen many in your first budget but doubt you'll find any around 10k
Quite honestly I've been thinking about getting one to go out more often as you really don't need another person on board like you do in a larger boat.
I'm sure you seen this with your dad's boat.
So now tell us what Pop's boat runs for power and what speeds she hits
See ya,
Kelly

When we were looking I originally wanted the velocity but due to odd handling (from what I read here, no real world experience) from the pad bottom and the oversized elf slipper look had to pass. Our formula 242 measures 26' overall, handles the chop exceptionally well, and has a good sized cabin but is topped out at 63 mph. Another good thing is they are all over and fairly priced for the amenities.

I would take what you read about the handling of a Velocity with a grain of salt. They handle great. They respond to driver input very well. Do they handle like a cruiser? Nope. However, if you don't like the looks, then that's a different point. But you shouldn't rule them out until you see one in person. I will try and dig up a few cockpit and cabin photos for you. Then you can compare the style and quality to the others your looking at. Since Velocity are custom boats, they are built with high quality parts and the fit and finish will blow away what you will find in a production boat (Baja, checkmate, etc). I am not saying anything bad about Baja and checkmate. I previously owned a Baja, but my Velocity, hands down was a much better built boat. I will say this, the Velocity 260 handled the chop and rough seas much better than 24 and 25 outlaws I have ridden in.... The pad bottom really comes into play when you are running fast. The boat will get up on the pad and free itself up, allowing for greater speeds (vs a traditional vee bottom boat). However when running in the rough at speeds of 45-50, she handles much like a traditional Vee.

Well I don't really know what his boat runs at WOT. Its has 3 merc blue merc 575's in it. He is really easy on the boat. Fully loaded with 4-6 people it runs mid 50's around 3200 rpm. Don't quote me but those numbers should be close. I have never been on a top speed run on that boat so I have no idea what top speed is. Boat is bad ass though!
