Facebook and powerboats know it alls

Has anyone seen the growing number of people on Facebook that seem to know everything about powerboats? Weather it's a pic, question, or a sale add. There is a growing number of people who seem to bash or want to tell you how to do it. Then after looking into it they don't even have a boat. It's like dar is all over Facebook telling them what to say.

drpete3 07-30-2014 07:13 AM

I just noticed it on a listing for a 42 ol on Facebook. Pretty annoying

Scott B 07-30-2014 07:14 AM

I'll have to ask one of my 6 YO nieces to look….

4bus 07-30-2014 07:19 AM

I'm sure they have been here before, they just got chased away by the educated audience here.

I too have noticed it, it is comical

Biggus 07-30-2014 07:25 AM

Those that think they know it all really annoy those of us who do. lol

Wildman_grafix 07-30-2014 07:30 AM

Maybe it's just Facebook doing another psychological experiment.

jvcobra 07-30-2014 07:43 AM

I noticed the same thing, people went as far as saying my boat for sale had bad motors or I was trying to pull a scam.

Rattlesnake Jake 07-30-2014 07:57 AM

I really could care less about social media. I don't text, tweet, or facebook. Some one sends me a message on my cell I call them. Phone and email is all I need.

314joey 07-30-2014 08:03 AM

I don't "fartbook" so I wouldn't know.

ealesh33 07-30-2014 08:11 AM

The amount of bad advice on some of those posts are ridiculous. People don't do there own research anymore, and just spew information they over heard someone talking about that wasn't credible to begin with. There is a guy that I see on almost every post giving advice to people that honestly doesn't have a clue. Not saying I know everything, but I know enough to know he doesn't know **** and just throws back info he heard from somewhere lol

Maybe I'm behind the times and I'm only 35. But the wife and I don't Facebook, tweet or any of that other crap!! I really don't care to.

ICDEDPPL 07-30-2014 09:21 AM

OMG YES!! 1000hp is fine for a TRS drive.. 30 mph 6.0 Diesels all day long.. I could go on all day about the stuff spewed on LameBook

Wobble 07-30-2014 10:32 AM

I'm not on FB so cant really comment.

My 18yo daughter calls it fakebook, says everyone is pretending to be something they are not.

Same, I could care less, just a waste of time IMO. I don't have time for social media, except for OSO and VOA...

You guys are just old and dont welcome change!

Kidding...it can get dumb in a hurry....

Knot 4 Me 07-30-2014 10:40 AM

My wife is on Facebook. She rarely posts. She's only on there as that is the only way some of her friends communicate. She shows me posts all the time that are "WTF"??!! Did the world really need to know that? I'm surprised she hasn't shown me a post of someone's bowl movement. I guess it is just a matter of time...

bcfountain 07-30-2014 10:54 AM

the powerboat swap shop can be pretty entertaining at times.,,,,,never aloss of words for some of those jockeys.i have mixed feelings about facebook.for the longest time I did not have a account.i got it because all my boating friends have it and make boating plans that I was always missing out on.also.I did a trade with a guy on facebook.he had some trs drives and some transmission.i had tried for awhile on oso to find trs parts and transmissions at a decent price.i found this guy in port huron that was looking for a supercharger for a car project he and his son are doing.we traded parts for parts.had my doughts,,,so did he.but everything worked out fine.he got what he wanted,i got the same.i guess what I am saying is,i never thought facebook would be good.but it is.it is what you make of it.

I don't tweet or faceplant and I am just about fed up with texting. Dating at 47 is difficult enough. The last three trainwrecks(women) from 18 to 44 that spent the nite "ALL" slept with their phone next to the bed. Needless to say none of said women are still visiting my Casa!

Identical in my house.

I have an account because they told us work that it helps internet search hits to our website.I don't know how it works.

I COULDN'T :D care less about it though. I do look at comments on youtube videos and am also just amazed at the stupidity. It's one thing to be ignorant, it's another to show it to the world!

I think it is an indication of our society and lack of humility. Everyone thinks they know everything about anything and is quick to let you know. The worst thing about people like that is that they never learn anything because they think they already know. I don't waste my time with them.

teamsynergy 07-30-2014 01:36 PM

For the record... I am the only one who knows everything.... me.. not you. Me!

Now you may continue on with your meaningless rants about whatever it is you talk about. :-)

I have arguments with stupid people before Facebook about boats. Like people not understand Cigarette is a name brand of a boat company and not type of boat. I had a person tell me a boat in front of us was a Cigarette boat even though the name Fountain was right in front of their face. They honestly could not understand what I was explaining to them.

I like your Avatar. 64 Galaxie. 390 or 427?? They did one similar on Counting Cars.

fasthawk6 07-30-2014 06:04 PM

That powerboat swap shop is not that bad for selling stuff , sold my boat in 2 weeks off that place. You have to remember that most of society has facebook now so it gets a lot of traffic.

Proving—at least to me—isn't all bad, http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...er-down-rising.

As in everything, there is more crap than quality in social media outlets from Facebook to Twitter to Instagram to Tumblr to Snapchat. And I mean a lot.

At least these guys are contributing something positive. Hats off to George Tobin and Rodney Olson.

From a marketing perspective, I can tell say without hesitation that speedonthewater.com's Facebook page is an incredible referral traffic driver for speedonthewater.com. For better or worse—and based on this thread I'd say the consensus here is worse—Facebook appears to be eroding some interest in message boards and communities. I find that interesting, because Facebook is an interface nightmare for threaded discussions.

If it makes anyone feel any better, there are plenty of people where I live—roughly 20 miles from the offices of Facebook—who believe Facebook is yesterday's news.

How in the hell do you find something on FB that you saw 20 minutes ago??? is there even a way to search the fb swap shop for something??

Quick2500 07-30-2014 08:08 PM

I deleted my FB account about a year ago... It was almost liberating to not get roped into the BS that gets posted there.

Right underneath the picture, on the far right side, is a magnifying glass. Click on it to search. (In your PC web browser view.)

It's a 1963 (&1/2). In mid year '63 they came out with the sport roof for better air flow (before that they had the box top. like T-Birds) as well as the 427 (up from 406). It's a 427 500XL, 4 speed car. '64's are very similar with same roof line but front/back ends are different and sides are a bit different. I like the '64's too but prefer the cleaner lines of the '63.5.

Reading through this thread, I note your valid point but it is one of many I took into account when responding. Regardless, your point is still valid.

One thing I have noted and it is referenced in the subject line ... time and and time again on this message board I have read posts in which a self-appointed surveyor/dealer/appraiser/buyer/seller declares/contradicts/confirms/expands the value of a boat for sale. In short, opinions on such issues are as prevalent in message board communities as they are on Facebook. It isn't new ... it's just a newer platform for voicing opinion.

In the end, a boat is worth what it sells for. Speculation one way or another is only that. Sometimes accurate, sometimes not.
