Wanna know how many Cannon plugs, grounds (watch that new paint !), and variety electrical gremlins get created when replacing/rebuilding a motor. As far as to read up on all this - there is much here but not at all organized. Best way to find them first is by finding motor broken or tuning problem threads. A lot of answers/questions given/asked by fellow members will be rigging related. #1 thing to do - if you have a question, ask it ! No one will schit on you for asking. You will be schit on for not listening to advice and for not having some diagnostics of the problem at hand. Like the famous: "My boat just died. What is it ?" kind of thread. Some things need to be chacked and some symptoms leading up to this, if any, should be shared with the question. Overall, if you show you care, others will care with you. |
Hmm scary, I checked every one of those boxes with my retrofit, lots of pain to come I assume

Add to that the first startup before setting timing and no break in oil, etc.
There are many recipes for a disaster. See ya Kelly |

Things go wrong even when you pay people that supposedly do this for a living. Buddy had new NA 489's built this spring. One motor would never build oil temp. Builder blamed sticking oil thermostat. Nope. How about no valve or plug in the filter pad bypass. From dyno to about 5 hours of in boat run time one motor had nothing in that hole. Which is nice...

Pretty sure the Engineer at FM agreed that they had a bad batch of bearings, which ended up delaminating, so yes it was the bearings fault.

Hopefully we are not talking about your new engines... If the same builder builds them, I will bet money they will fail again soon
