Finally bought a boat!

After searching for over 2 months I finally got a boat that I really like and will work great for my family. Its a 1993 Baja 24 outlaw with an efi 502 and gil exhaust. Trailer is horrible so I ordered an aluminum one today. Boat did really good on its first day out. The boat does not like the prop though. Its a 22p bravo 1 4 blade. It porpoises like crazy if I even attempt to trim the drive up and will still do it a little bit with no tab and drive fully tucked. HUGE thanks to member mickeymcclgn. He has helped me through this whole process and actually sent me the link to this boat I bough. He has a mirage and a mirage + prop we are trying out tomorrow evening. I will try to post some pics.

congratulation's,enjoy

Fasttoys1 08-18-2014 07:34 PM

Thanks shooter. It needs some TLC due to the PO being an idiot, but nothing major. Had a blast yesterday. Will be adding hydro steering, swim platform, new trailer (Already ordered), better prop, and making my own dash. Let the money pit start to fill lol

Congrats on your new toy!

Looks Good . Have a Ball.

Cherish one of the 2 happiest days of your life you just experienced.LOL

Fasttoys1 08-18-2014 09:05 PM

Thanks guys. I know the saying. This will be my 5th boat. I started with a 15' ft tri hull, then a 23' CC trophy, crownline CR250, 6 meter century riveria, and now the Baja. The Baja is by far my favorite out of them all. I plan on doing what I do with every other toy I have. I will put between 6-8 times as much money into as I can get out of it, and I'm ok with that. I just like to go fast and have fun. I know it costs money and t will be done a little at a time like all my other chit. Thanks for all the congrats. It came with a gopro mount already on the windshield, that means the hero 3 gets some boat action.

needavdub 08-18-2014 09:15 PM

Congrats on your new boat, I just purchased a 24 outlaw myself a few weeks ago and I'm in love with it. I'm bummed to hear you don't like the 22 pitch bravo 1 though, that's the exact prop I was planning on getting this week to help me plane a little quicker in mine. I have a 23 pitch mirage plus now that seems to offer pretty good top speed (63.4 gps) but I'd like a better holeshot.

Fasttoys1 08-18-2014 09:58 PM

I have read good things about the hydro 4 blade. Mickey is going to look at some things tomorrow to see if there is something else causing it to ride like that. I can't blame it all on the prop yet, but we'll see. I don't know the history on the prop either. May have had some work done to it.

CBlakeNS 08-18-2014 10:04 PM

Congrats - Mickeys a nice guy met him at the last poker run Jammin' on the James.

Sydwayz 08-18-2014 10:07 PM

It will probably like a 3-blade prop.

It spins the bravo 4 blade 22p to 5200. We should have some GPS speeds today.

Hey Chris. Look forward to meeting you. I will be at Mickeys house with the boat around 5:30. Might want to shoot him a text and see where to meet.

badmonkey 08-19-2014 11:29 AM

Just did. I will plan on being on the water at 530. Give me a call when you can so we can say hello. Look forward to meeting you as well.

baditude 08-19-2014 11:31 AM

Congrats the 24's are great boats.

Delforce22 08-19-2014 12:00 PM

Congrats on the boat. Maybe I will see you out and about the Chesapeake, Outlaw is a great boat for the Bay as it handles the rough really well, several running around my area on the Elk River.

CBlakeNS 08-19-2014 01:25 PM

Y'all have fun!

The boat runs COMPLETELY different with the new prop. Started out with a bravo 1 22p. Then tried a mirage plus. The plus was better, but still had a little porpoise to it. Then we put on the mirage and it was all smiles from there! The boat handled so much better. Once again I owe Mickey a HUGE thanks. The boat didn't porpoise at all and we were able to actually trim it up. Also thanks to Badmonkey for letting us use his pier for the prop swap.

We got a best of 64 mph (GPS phone app) at 4900 RPMS in 1' chop, 2 people and FULL tank of fuel. I feel a lot more comfortable driving the boat now and will be on the bay both days this weekend. Thanks guys I'm happier than a pig in chit.

Here's some shots that Badmonkey took. she's a little dirty in the pics, but I'll get here cleaned up..........

Well done Mike. Boat looks great in the water.

Your boat looks great in the water! You have me re-thinking purchasing a 22P Bravo 1 prop now, I already have a little porpoising with my Mirage + 23P as it is and I'm certainly not looking for more. I'm sure your 502 is making more power than my Gen VI 454 Mag though so maybe that matters.

I have VERY limited knowledge when it comes to these boats. However after reading on this site and testing yesterday I can tell you the mirage was the prop for my boat. The + was better than the bravo, but the mirage was worlds better than +. My 502 is rated at 415hp. The mirage allows you to actually trim the boat up without porpoising. The tabs were in the neutral position for most of testing. My boat planes easy at 3000 rpms with tabs and drive all the way down.

One thing we discovered is on my Baja trim indicator gauge to get the tabs in the neutral posion they had to be down 3 dots. So when your tabs are all the way up they are not neutral. Hopefully this information was useful to you. Feel free to give me a call at 443-829-9144 and I can discuss our test results with you before you buy another prop.

It is going to be a money pit. I will have fun making it mine though.

Speedracer29 08-20-2014 12:51 PM

Congratulations on the new boat, but you now need a tow vehicle, because we all know anything beyond a 14' jon boat requires a 1 ton diesel with 4WD.... :cartman:

Haha, I don't have any issue towing mine with my '87 G20 van!

Speedracer29 08-20-2014 01:06 PM

That boat is nice, but the van has "stranger danger" written all over it! LOL. Did that thing come with duct tape and extension cords as a factory option, or are they aftermarket?! LMAO

You gotta paint a big mural of Neptune or Thor on the side, or at least put a porthole window in! Jeebus!

Somewhere in my garage, there's an unused bumper sticker that says "your honor student is tied up in back". I bought two and put the other one on my old boss' van right before I quit. If I find it, I'll toss it in the truck and bring it the next time I go to Holloway.

Fasttoys1 08-20-2014 09:37 PM

My truck has the 5.3 vortech motor in it and seems to pull good in trailer mode.

I like the graphics on that boat.

CBlakeNS 08-20-2014 09:45 PM

Nice man! Should have tried some different props on my boat to see what they would do but trying to sell to go bigger. If you know anyone that wants a quick 24' let me know. Chris can vouch for it.

This is true...she's a screamer !!! ...Are we still talking about his boat????....lol :evilb:

Fasttoys1 08-21-2014 07:35 AM

I will be attempting to replace the swivel pin, fix hatch motor, and install full dual ram hydro steering soon. Also sending the prop to bblades to get labbed. Time to start throwing some money at her.

Make a "wish list" and do these things during the off season...we still have plenty of running time left before old man winter shows up. Don't want to be missing any water time while you still can enjoy it.

CBlakeNS 08-21-2014 01:52 PM

Haha that is how boating goes always throwing money!
