Is there a way to email notifications when someone responds to a thread that you are participating in?

The easiest way would be for you to "subscribe" to the particular thread.

Look to the tool bar directly above your first post. Click "Thread tools" and then subscribe to the thread you are interested in, When you are viewing that thread.

If you go to "settings" to "general settings" to "email options" you can customize to where you automatically subscribe to every thread you post in and you will get an email every time someone posts, like a subscripted thread.
