Tore up a drive today....
My skeg was showing the ravages of the years, so I got a new merc skeg and had it welded on. Then the new skeg decided to peel off the lower. I was in deep water, didnt hit anything. I was lumpy and I was getting a bit of air, then it felt like somebody hit the brakes. Took out a new prop, took a few chunks out of the lower and cavitation plate and put 2 cracks in the rear of the bullet. looks like I'm going shorty shopping this winter.
So much for fixing a working drive.....

it is best to have skegs rewelded not from straight cuts but cut outs like shark teeth marks ( VVV ) if you have room below the bullet to make V cuts and weld that up to the matched V cuts in the skeg.. It makes for a lot stronger repair plus easier to make the skeg straight when welding the repair..
