Pre alpha stuff. Alpha 1. Trs. Bravo 1. Blackhawk. Alpha 1 gen 2. Bravo 2. Bravo 3.

Then the speedmasters. 2. 3. 3a. 4. 5. 6. M8. Those are the ones I know.

Timelines, I will not be exact but I will be close:

Check out this link: https://plus22.safe-order.net/mercstuff/drive_id.htm

This link may help explain the Speedmaster evolution http://seriousoffshore.com/forums/ar...hp/t-9532.html

TRS cam out in 1974 (right about then), replaced by Bravo drives cam out in 1988 this may help yo in the Apha and Bravo timeline neither Alpha nor Bravo drives require transmissions whereas the TRS, Speedmasters, and NSX all require transmissions.

This is an interesting topic in that Mercury should have their parts department list all the outdrives and engines packages from the late 1960's till present for their customers. Add in pictures too, I would be stunned if that material does not exist somewhere in the parts/marketing departments. It would be informative, and may be a good selling tool, for upgrades, and parts. My $0.02 opinion, but then I always have geared for sales, maybe I am in the wrong line of work, then I again I do sell sell just to a different audience...

There is a handy.tech reference chart from merc that helps identify drives , shows which features specific to which drives ect . One of their first was a diesel and a drive that rotated instead of tilted , from late '50 s early 60's haven't seen either in person though

Thanks for all the reading fellas the SOS thread was diffently interesting with all the 1st hand stories. its amazing where drives have come i wonder why no one has tried making an all carbon case with titanium tipped carbon gears sounds expensive but I wonder if it would work ?
