Something positive for a change.
Lately, oso has been filled with insults, bashing, angry temper tantrums, deleted threads, and all kinds of nonsense stuff.
I would like to step back for a second, take a deep breath, and say THANK YOU, to some of the guys who provide POSITIVE input on the forums. Whether it be Technical related, or even just good old conversation and fun. Lets try to keep OSO, one notch above some of the other boating sites with good tech info, good reading, good events, hot woman, fast boats, and everything pertaining to fun on the water. We can make threads that go 200 pages worth of ball busting, insults, and bashing, lets see if we can get one to go 200 pages filled with good comments. If you feel another member on oso, brings something positive to this community, whatever area it may pertain to, feel free to mention them here. Lets try patting someone on the back, instead of stabbing in the back for a change. :bong: |
I haven't been on this place long but mainly the reason I have kept off internet forums is drama. There is a lot of great information on here and I have already met a member who recently purchased the same boat, just a couple years newer. He is going to haul out to Michigan and we are going to show him what Jobbie Nooner is. I look forward to meeting some new people, making some new friends and doing the one thing that brings us all together. BOATING, in real life. Not internet keyboard racing and dick measuring. haha
Nice choice of thread to start Mild Thunder. I feel this is one to chime in on! |
I agree, if it wasn't a great thing than why keep coming back. You could just walk away from oso at any time. That being said, if anyone wants to step up and make this a really happy place ( for me that is) please send me 2) never used 500hps please. I can pm you my address . Thank you.

What a novel idea, there's been tons great info from lots of guys, here's a few, all the FMO guys and I.C.U.Looking has helped me with stuff down here in our little area, here's just one example, we bought a new car and needed some help with car window tinting, he hooked me up, even though there's a occasionally bad experience, it's mostly great boaters trying to help other good guys, thanks for the positive thread, that's my input.
|
Good thread idea.
With that said, Im gonna go out on a limb and give an internet hand shake to a member named Mild Thunder. He seems like a real good, straight up guy with nice info on important stuff, like blowers/carbed blower motor tuning. You should head over to the General Q&A section and check out his Blower sizing thread. Also keeps an awesome avatar. |
MILD THUNDER FOR PRESIDENT!!!! go joe!! Lol
|
What a stupid idea. This thread sucks ;) sorry I couldn't resist.
I must say I have learned more on OSO than I could've ever imagined about boating. Very knowledgeable people on here. Among those is definitely joe "mild thunder". Thanks for answering a lot of my rookie questions! Also, recently I was in naples where Bob "bobthebuilder" made me feel like I was at home for an awesome day of boating with the FMO members. What a great group of people, friendly and fun! Class act! I mean, where else are you gonna go on vacation and get invited to an amazing full day of boating with people you never met? I'm still in shock lol. Oso has been nothing but good to me even though I like to bust balls here n there, it's all in fun! Thanks guys! |
Nice thread Joe, and cheers for many guys on here with truly good advice. :ernaehrung004:

I too have made some great friends through offshoreonly over the years.
I'd like to mention Eddie Young. Eddie has taken the time to offer advice on the forums, as well as on the telephone with myself, and alot of other guys. I learned alot from Eddie, even though I wasnt spending money with him. Same goes for RMBuilder. Bob came thru for Icdedppl last year when him and I were going thru his engines. He worked with icdedppls' cylinder head guy, selecting a good spring package, and was a great help over the phone. Never once did he try to push his parts down our throats, trying to make a sale. Worked with him on another recent build, and the end result was nothing less than great. Guys like him and Eddie, have a strong passion for what they do, and it clearly shows. I thank them for helping out the little guys like myself. |
Between Mild Thunder and 12 Meter Joe's avatars, I'm finding it pretty hard to even string a sentence together, but here goes. I've been on this site since last summer. I've learned a TON of stuff from a lot of the guys on here and find it a great place to sanity check ideas and solve problems. I've made a bunch of friends here, some I've never even met in person... sure, the drama creeps in.. but on balance, there is a great community here...

the list of members that deserve mentioning is long but a few that i will mention mild thunder, lil red, bup,sb, mr gadgets, arcticfriends and bob madera..i enjoy the technical stuff and that,s why these guys stand out for me.i will say that i have made a lot of friends on oso and i very rarely miss a chance to log in.

Mild Thunder, Mike Tkach, SB, Sydwayz, LIL Red just to name a few, very helpful

Another guy I became great friends with through oso is Mike Tkach. Here's my Mike Tkach story.
Although Mike and I don't live far apart, I had never met him until around 2011. Only saw his oso posts, and a couple mutual friends knew him. A few years back, I was rebuilding my engines. I had found that I had a bad block. Thru a friend, I heard Mike had a shortblock completely built, with 0 hours on it, that was built to exactly what I was intending to build. He had it for another project, that he ended up just not needing it for. I contacted him about buying it, and also said, "Well, I'll buy that one off you Mike, and can you build me a duplicate shortblock, if I bring you my other good existing block to match". He said sure , no problem. So he did. I picked up 2 fresh shortblocks from him, did the rest of the engines myself. Once all was said and done, engines installed in the boat, first time out, I had a problem. Milkshaked the oil, filled crankcase with water, oh $hit. Went home, tore it down, and found the cylinder wall had split. Turned out the machine shop that did the machine work, didn't catch that thin cylinder wall, no fault of Mike's whatsover. At that point, i was freaking out, not towards mike, but just in general. I had spent ALOT of money, and my boat budget was real thin at that point. Here I sat with a busted block, and was about to drag the boat to storage and throw a for sale sign on it. But, here's how Mike handled the situation. He had me bring the boat to his house, helped me pull the engine. We tore it down together. We found another block on craigslist. He picked me up a couple days later, drove me 3 hours away in his truck to go get the block, PAID for lunch, PAID for the block, PAID for the machine work on the new block, COMPLETELY assembled the entire engine from head to toe, and helped me reinstall it at his house. He stood behind what he sold me, and without a doubt, lost quite a bit of money on the deal. He wouldnt take any money from me for any of that. Total downtime from busted block, to back up and running, was less than 2 weeks. He went WAAAY out of his way to make it right. He put his own projects on hold, to make sure I got back on the water asap. Since then, Mike and I have became nothing less than great friends, worked together on lots of projects, lots of dyno sessions, lots of phone conversations and shared a ton of laughs working on stuff together. Heck, just last week he let me come to his house and put my Jeep up on his lift, and use his tools, to change out my struts and shocks. Sometimes its hard to see a guys true colors based on what we read on the forums sometimes. But, Thats the Real Mike Tkach, in the real world. |
Mild Thunder, Mike Tkack, Griff, Sydwayz, LIL Red, Sick Stinger gave me great help when I was a new member. And now I have seen bup,sb, mr gadgets, arcticfriends, bob madera, etc are also huge players in helping the new guys out!

I've been involved with him on a bunch of engine builds thru friends and what not, and he is as honest as they come. Down to the penny. Never a guy you need to worry about pulling one over on you. |
Let's not forget Dave at XT innovations.
This site has top notch technical advice. All the guys mentioned already are real assets to this community. |
The only I see what's wrong with this thread is how not to forget someone....................griff has always been super helpful for me, thanks Griff.

Great member and even better friend. In all honesty, I have met more members over the years than I could list without worrying about missing a couple. It would be easier for me to list the members I have met that I didn't like. So here is the list: 1. |

Go to hell Joe. Haha. I've met some real good people here. Some I hang out with regularly at home. Leaving other threads and issues out of it. Commandersander (rich) and Oneanddone (bill) have become great friends and are great people. I've met guys from fmo who are good guys. Also met tommy monza and randy (beak boater). Good guys to hang out and have a beer with.
Technical advice joe, mike, Eddie, bob, glassdave, SB, bup, lil red. Parts from some of the same including Gordon (smokin gun) and mike (sick stinger) Apparently talk around fmo is that 12meter joe is all talk. Shows up to run skankless and didn't find any either!! Haha 314joey (Jim) is just never in town when I am. Heard he's a dick anyway. Haha. A lot of good people on here and most my dealings have been too notch. I'm sure I didn't mention some people but you get the idea |
After you're here on OSO for a while , you figure out who gives sound advice and who dishes out bullchit . Mike Tkach , Mild Thunder , Eddie Young , RMbuilder , SB and HaxbySpeed , these men give good solid tech advice . I have spoken with PrecisionDetails about my drive height setup and he hooked me up with the phone # and name of a rigger from DCB and got me permission to bother him . :D Top notch information and good people that are willing to share it all gathered on one site , well it just doesn't get any better . Most of us here are here because we all share the same disease ! Power , speed and babes on the water ! Great thread MT . :cool-smiley-011::circle::boat:

High&dry was excellent to deal with in the swap shop. Shipped promptly, arrived safely, and was as advertised. Deal was for a prop, if anyone cares.
