sre 11-18-2014 10:39 PM

Yes, that part of the lake is all sand.

315duramax 11-18-2014 10:48 PM

Is that an every weekend occurance or a special like "raft off" event like the title says?

sre 11-18-2014 10:57 PM

Every weekend is big but this is a special annual event in August.

315duramax 11-18-2014 11:08 PM

How come everything has to happen in august... There is never anything June or July and everything is crammed in august haha

thirdchildhood 11-19-2014 05:23 AM

We actually rafted off with about 50 boats in front of the main raft so we could leave without messing it up. Here's our crew.

12meter joe 11-19-2014 02:19 PM

The current coming from middle and south channel flush the bay out quickly.

We go every year, my wife and I get together with friends and get slips at Metro. We started the Metro deal 3 years ago, we set up tents and cook for everyone. I think we had a dozen boats in our group for this years Raft Off, was Awesome!

BrettM 11-19-2014 02:46 PM

Huge turn out!! WOW....

sea6 11-19-2014 03:03 PM

Dammit. Every time I see one of these videos, I just gotta get one.

Knot 4 Me 11-19-2014 03:08 PM

Way cool! I've rafted off at the Moot before in June. I think I lost feeling in my legs after an hour!

MichiMike 11-19-2014 04:54 PM

When it's HOT out the boats coming off the lake into Muscamoot on the weekend reminds me of D-Day invasion.

In June? That's odd. The bay is one of the first places to warm up. Although, this year coming off the bad winter and late spring it took a minute. I guess early June is only a one beer walk and then it's back aboard. Lol

PremierPOWER 11-19-2014 05:02 PM

When is this event? We do cumberland thunder run, poker run, and raftup each year as well as Chicago boat scene. This looks like one we need to do as well.

12meter joe 11-19-2014 05:07 PM

Mid to late August

MichiMike 11-19-2014 05:15 PM

The best about Moot you walk in the water.None of that across boat to boat walking.3-5' deep all sand.

12meter joe 11-19-2014 05:24 PM

^^ nailed it

thirdchildhood 11-19-2014 05:33 PM

^ Yep, just walk up and down the strip and stop by the DJ boat to dance with some babes to dubstep. Everyone is friendly. The girls want to dance and the police presence is minimal. :)

Yep!

buck183 11-19-2014 08:41 PM

Looks like lots of fun. I'd like to experience that sometime.

Riddle me this...is see people walking around in waist deep water. I see large boats with a deep draft. Where I come from one wouldn't dream of putting their boat in water that shallow for fear of tearing something up. How are these boats not damaging props or drives in 3' of water?

Buck

JohnAT 11-19-2014 08:52 PM

Raise the drive and walk them in.

Thought someone would say that. Rule number one with a stern drive is to not idle them in gear with drive trimmed high.

What's the other option?

. Youtube jobbienooner. It is the last weekend of June. Same lake and even bigger then Raft Off, only downside is the weather can be a little iffy sometimes.

First off, you have to be careful getting in the Bay. Then when you are ready to head over to the group you idle slowly with drive raised (not all the way) and when it is shallow enough you cut the engine and get in the water and walk the boat in. The bottom is all sand, barefoot friendly and also forgiving if the drive does bump the bottom at idle. In the video you can see the way into the bay. Don't follow the charts! Follow bigger boats! :)

JN may have more people but not even close to the amount of boats. That has turned into amatuer hour the last 6-7 years. It is no longer a " boater" event. Any Jackwagon that can find his/her way out there goes. Just by the amount of Police , Sheriff , and Coast Gaurd presence tells you the caliber of the people it attracts :(

Outboards. Shown to reduce the chance of Hepatitis A from pee water.
