Nobody's impressed by lying about your 75mph top speed, and calling it "80". Not when we live in a world where 100mph vee's are a dime a dozen.
Totally agree, the claims seen kill me, guys like us are normally right on with speeds and calling guys out, I been in so many old straight hull boats and know what it takes.... 70+ in a old Cig is not slow really, not when you think of thats the breaking point of fun....anything over 70 starts to be real fun! I still am amazed what mine runs with 600's, and its real fun...

guys crack me up with posts on speeds at times...

Any older boat in 70-80MPH range is a good time and impressive to me....

Went out yesterday pretty rough chop 35 mph wind etc etc. Boat flew over the waves neutral on tabs. At 4000 rpm Gps 66mph at 4200 68 mph. I think 82-85 with 4 blades is achievable. I am spinning 5 blade maximus 27 no diffuser ring. 1;35 ratio. motors are 700-750

For me its about cruise speed. I dont push it hard but will post numbers when weather breaks. My boat is kevlar with the hook removed from the bottom.I did a search on OSO seemed like someone put alot of R&D into the boat for setup.

I know for a fact the boat with 500 EFI's (which I believe dyno at around 470hp) and bravos runs 69-71 depending on load and the other with 700's and TRS drives will run 82-83,. With "faster drives" I'm sure the 700 boat would run 85. A straight boat TG with 600's and bravos should run around 78 or so. With perfect conditions, saltwater, no passengers, and extrememly light on fuel, these numbers would no doubt be a little higher.

When I bought my boat, I was seeing consistent 66 at 45-4600 RPM at 3/4 of a tank of fuel, propped wrong due to the previous owner swapping the 1.5 drives for 1.36 drives. By every account from previous owners the boat will run 67 all day when propped right and touch 69 if the stars align. What is interesting is this is with 425 horsepower. The only difference I can see is when this boat was converted from a TRS to a bravo drive the X dimension was brought up quite a bit. I have also noted no porpoising at any point. The only downfall is some minor blowout getting up on plane, but you can power right through it with no issue. I wonder if running shorty lowers on a factory bravo setup would result in worthwhile speed improvements. I have already swapped back to 1.5 drives for next year and will be sending the props to BBlades to see if we can get the slip down from 16% a bit and squeeze a bit more speed out of it.

Did you dyno the engines?

At least your slip numbers make sense. I see some guys post speed numbers up, where its physically impossible to do. Like running 90mph with 26p props and 1.5 ratio drives, at 5400rpm. It cant be done.

700 and 750 hp is a big difference, with 750 I see over 80 most likely, 700 not so much... depends what they really make.

FF, are you suggesting a straight bottom TG won't run 80+ with true 700's?

I am saying it wold be RARE case.... true dynoed HP, basically what we are saying is most guys "claim" speeds and HP....drives play a huge role also, at the same time drives like 3's take more HP then a TRS to spin...so it really depends....
