Thanks

This is a 20'X40' portable shelter. (I just added a 35' carport in front of it - now I just roll the boat out and work on it if it's too hot inside and get in the shade) I did have to get a varience from the town, but because it's portable no new taxes.
I have electric through out overhead fans and lights.......it's anchored into the black top driveway and very solid. Sandy couldn't budge it, a tree did come down on the fence, but luckily before the car port extension went up.

It was great when I couldn't afford a garage....but it's no substitute. Like anything, installation is key. Secure it well, treat the zippers with lube since I found they eventually fail, and put plastic water barrier down on the ground......these thing suck tons of moisture out of the ground. Sun is the next thing to worry about. The frame has lasted 10-12 years, with many more to go, but the cover has been replaced since mine gets full sun.
fyi: The round tops cost more but would shed snow better. Mine is an "A" frame and will hold snow.

I had planned on a round top because of snow. The sun was another concern of mine. I've been trying to research and it seems like any product, everyone claim theirs as the best. One thing that I noticed is that they all have a different thickness for the cover, so I just need to find the happy medium between price and tarp thickness...because prices seem to be all over the place. Good tip on the zippers! Thanks

Open to any suggestions on where to get one that had a thick cover or will last a long time.

Not sure, the first cover came with it and the replacement came from another company.....nearly the same covers. Even these "cheap" ones withstood 6-8 inches of snow and a tropical storm with 60-70 mph gusts. I cut a "V" in the top of a 16ft 2x4 and cut enough off the other end so I could wedge the top on the center cross beam and the other end into the ground. The sides are supported every 4 ft but the front/back have a 14ft wide gap. The 2x4 helped provide some support when the wind would blow hard.

BTW: I too had mounted lights, a plug, and a fan inside of mine. Even used stone dust to form the floor into a "V" under where the boat sat so if it was still wet the water would collect and drain out the back. Grass will eventually die near the doors so put lots of large gravel down in the entrance way. Wind always seemed to blow dirt/duct inside and the rock helped reduce that drastically.

Next year I think I am building something that is anchored to the ground with a metal roof but this works for now!

Nice thing is I can install it in my driveway and then back the boat into the back yard with the structure already built!

Interesting. Are those 2x4's? Is the bottom board all one piece, flush with the bottom of the I-beam of the trailer? I am thinking something similar to this would work for me for the time being.

Go with a carport design vs. the tent if you can. The carport will ought not be considered a permanent structure/improvement.
