Ive got a Sony Mavica. I like it because it uses floppy's and you dont need a cord or software. Just stick the floppy in any computer and youve got pictures. It also does super closeups. Its a little big and they have a CD version too. You could probably put thousands of pics on the CD.

I just recently bought a Nikon CoolPix 5700 for the 8x lens that I took to the Corpus Christi races. It's at the top end, or a "pro-sumer" of the price range. Looked strongly at the Sony 707 and Minolta Dimage 7i also. Both great cameras with good zoom. All are in the 5 mega-pixel range. Sony uses their MemoryStick and only has 128mb. Wanted more storage room. My Nikon uses CompactFlash - up to 1gb, or IBM MicroDrives - up to 1gb storage.
A little lower on the scale, look at the Kyocera (Yashica) FineCam S3, S4, and S5. They're getting great reviews. Or FujiFilms offerings like the FinePix 2800 Zoom. Check out these sites for detailed reviews: http://www.dcresource.com/ http://www.imaging-resource.com/ http://www.dpreview.com/ http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm http://www.photo.net/ Here's a photo originally shot at 2560x1950 pixels and resized to 640x360 to post. It's a shot of my seat back from about 4 feet away and zoomed in. Nice detail from the 5 mega-pixel camera. This is my first digital and I love it. Good luck on your search. Scott |

Three questions:
-Is there a teleconverter (doubler) lens available to boost it to 16X optical? My 10X is great but 16X would be better for offshore racing. -What type of storage media? -how much? Thanks marc |
Oh, another really cool LITTLE camera is Minolta Dimage X. Fits into a shirt pocket. 2mp, 3x zoom, lots of features. I'm thinking I might get one just to take along anywhere.

There's a 1.5x teleconverter and a wide angle too. They didn't get it into the store before I went to the races. In 35mm terms that would make it a 35mm to 420mm zoom instead of the stock 28-280mm. Around $1100 |

Not fair to talk about the race without a pic. Here's Flashwave.
