I would like to see a Duramax built with some Big Block mentality for marine use. Forget turbos to simplify things especially exhaust. Use a large procharger instead with regular intercoolers, they can make more than enough boost. Good rotating assembly, ported stock or aftermarket heads with larger valves, custom camshafts, fabricated intake manifold similar to Holley Hi Ram with a large throttle body. A conventional set of headers made to fit the duramax would fit the bill and be much easier, possibly much cheaper than exhaust and turbos I would think, and would result in much less piping/plumbing. Heck, how far off is the port spacing from a BBC? Could an adapter be machined to fit to use existing headers? Build her to spin 4000 rpm, that isn't out of the realm of possibilities at all.

As far as Cummins, Duramax, Powerjoke......ect, same theory applies. Your preference. I just like the v8 look and sound

I would think that build would have the potential for some serious HP let alone torque along with reliability. But of course I could be wrong. I need to win the lotto so I can be mad engineer/scientist with this crap.
The V8 sounds better but in a twin application they are a lot wider than a pair of inline 6's, supercharged would be cool, but the turbos have advantages also.

This is what I am going t use 725-900hp depending on boost and fuel
Four valves per cylinder overhead cam 3100 rpm 0.86:1 overdrive box and 1-1 drive.

I was in a similar boat a couple of months ago 46 Skater 2x725hp and same drive an box configuration and it ran 110mph and 90+ all day long.

I heard that Formula is looking into building a 400 SS with DuraMax engines in front of Conrad drives. Seems like it would be a nice set up with some 2 speed trans.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a 30ish footer with a single Duramax. I bet you could get enough power of a single diesel to keep up with many twins.

What do you guys think about water/methanol injection and nitrous in the marine diesel world?

I bought a Snow performance kit to try out in my boat. It helps with the EGT but water alone does nothing for MPG. With a 50/50 mix you get some extra HP which is cool but then you need to figure out a way to get Methanol in the boat on a regular basis, which is a pain in the butt. I have two fuel tanks, 257 gal main, and 57 gal forward tank, I thought about converting the forward diesel tank to a 50/50 water/meth tank, but for the few times I would want to run 3-4 mph faster, it isn't worth the expense. Even though you get much better MPG with the 50/50 spraying the cost of Methanol actually makes it much more expensive in terms of $/mile.

I am thinking about adding another tank in the boat somewhere to putting it back in though, even the water will be nice to have for those times I want to run WOT and have a extra safety cushion with the EGT. I run about 1200 degrees now at WOT.

Nitrous would cost you an arm and a leg, propane is where the major fuel savings/power would come from if you could find a place for that tank under the floor

I have loads of space for a propane tank but know nothing about what to do with it.
