I exchanged emails with a media contact in Key West, and from what he told me the powers that be behind this sort of thing take it very, very seriously and likely won't relent. A confrontational approach won't save the raft-up. Then again, nothing may save it.

This wildlife refuge supports the boating community. (see prohibited activities)
Boating Boaters have access to the protected side of the spit from May 15 to September 30. Public boat launches are located on Cline Spit and at the Oyster House adjacent to the Refuge. Boaters are cautioned that landing on the bay side of New Dungeness Spit is limited to the site on New Dungeness Bay adjacent to the Light Station. Advance reservation forlanding is required and can be obtained by calling: (360) . Boaters are further cautioned about a 100 yard no-wake zone inside of the marked "Boat Access Only" zones around Graveyard Spit. Prohibited Activities Jet skiing and windsurfing are not allowed on Refuge waters.;). |

On the outer banks they said by people driving on the beach it disturbs the local piping plover birds and sea turtles. So now you are required to purchase a permit to drive on limited beach acess. I guess they pay the birds and turtles off with that money now.

SBI racing is screwed up and now this, just move the poker run to Sarasota and party, some said no one would go to The Sheiks race and I believe 12 are going, I lived in KW six years and you can have as much fun here with no BS.
