Default why do quad engine boats not perform?

There are a handful of Nortechs and I believe there was one at the shootout but they dont beat the twins, for that matter neither do the triples.
Why is this?

Weight
Drive drag
Improper center of gravity

Why is this?
1) Power to weight ratio.
2) Hydrodynamic drag.
3) Difficulty in synchronization.

But they're cool. Sort of. In their own way.
