How not to Turn Stepped Bottom

..

Sydwayz 12-23-2014 12:33 AM

Looks like he almost turned all three of them into spear fishermen.

offshorexcursion 12-23-2014 01:11 AM

Looks like a group of NON boaters......boating!

Exact reason I stopped inviting non boaters in favor of boaters that are broke down or between boats, etc.

Oh yeah I didn't feel to safe while along for the ride while watching this....

Bawana 12-23-2014 01:40 AM

Boy, I sure hope that was just ALL just in the driver????? That boat at 101 mph in calm water sure looked like a very bad ride to me....

Smoking Joe 12-23-2014 03:13 AM

I thought the dude on the helm was way too casual given the speed and the wakes they encountered.

Black Baja 12-23-2014 04:46 AM

I'm just curious. What was wrong with the turn? Only thing I didn't care for is the lack of safety gear/ devices.

Smarty 12-23-2014 05:50 AM

Non-issue, a little hop, wave induced, slow speed, more wetted surface, look at the trim indicators and tab indicators which are visible in this vido drives are trimmed up, tabs are all the way up, I see nothing wrong, they are just enjoying a boat ride.

If he buried the drives going into and during the turn I would have a problem, but that did not occur, looks A-OK to me

Australia 12-23-2014 05:53 AM

in my experience you want to run plenty of up trim on turns in the step mono boats

Hemi 12-23-2014 05:59 AM

Not showing a lot of attention at those speeds, turning around talking to passengers while flying by buoys and boats. Don't want to be boating the day these guys are, that's for sure.

boatnt 12-23-2014 06:10 AM

man some of you guys are way too critical,,
maybe some of you guys need to post some videos of yourselves running your boats so we could critique.

Jupiter Sunsation 12-23-2014 06:15 AM

FYI that driver has owned several OL's including XXX, a few big cats and has a turbine MTI currently......he has as many hours at 100+ mph as some of the best OSO keyboard experts! :D

Sunny32SSR 12-23-2014 06:19 AM

Critical? I don't think so. He has 2-3 revolutions on the wheel. Not good. Turns around and takes his attention/body away at speed. Who knows where his trim and tabs were.

I wouldn't let my daughter ride with him.

At the minimum, no lanyard.

Here, feel free to critique this. http://youtu.be/srGUwjyV3xQ

I give myself a F for no jacket but an A for technique.

Unlimited jd 12-23-2014 06:39 AM

Not seeing it? Boat looks pretty stable through the turn. Who knows what the helm ratio is? 2 turns on that could be 3/4 on your boat.

watched your video,,
I think you did a great job,,everyone is having fun on you are been very responsible staying away from boat traffic and not doing anything stupid to put yourself and passengers at harms way.

now somebody else could watch your that video and come up with a different conclusion such as,,at 45 seconds you passenger in the back is standing up,,no life jackets, a couple of times you took your hand off the throttles,at times the passenger in rear was waving and not holding on,at no time did you even glance at your passengers to make sure they were ok..

for the record I think you did a great job but anybody could find something to b!tch about..

thirdchildhood 12-23-2014 07:14 AM

How does he get a ball cap to stay on over 100 mph? That's the real question here. . . . . . .

Knot 4 Me 12-23-2014 07:15 AM

If you are trying to learn how to properly drive a boat off of the internet you might reconsider owning/operating one.

boatnt 12-23-2014 07:16 AM

that was my next question...lol

baronmarine 12-23-2014 07:16 AM

i've been with him before and would never hesitate hooping in a boat with him again. he has a ton of experience in ol's. it is clam there in the bay and look how much faster a ol's race boat is going around a pin at speed. i see no problem with that turn.

todd

Sydwayz 12-23-2014 07:30 AM

Watch the wake behind the boat.
That would get my attention.

Totally focused, didn't cut the blind corners, slowed down for the big wakes. I'd ride with you.

MonkeySea2 12-23-2014 08:37 AM

My only issue is like someone else pointed out: he seems a little less than focused while doing 100 mph. But I have no experience doing those speeds so who am I to judge! And the moral of the story is: don't post videos of yourself running hard!!!:)

Great points! Throttle tab control isn't working properly which is why I had to get off the throttles and reach in front of them. Agree with the other points but the good news.... There is a mirror molded into the wind fairing so I don't have to take my eyes off the horizon!

I don't disagree. I feel like gumby and pecs are turning to moobs. I miss the days of being 195lbs and 8% BF and when my only real job was going to the gym.

Blueabyss 12-23-2014 08:47 AM

Only prob is see is he did not have a bunch of Big TiTTie Blonds on there to properly balance the boat...lol...

I was nervous watching that video with kids in the back seat. I didnt like being a passenger in a 100 MPH run with the driver looking all over the place. If I was in the back seat, I would have been yelling...."Turn the F#@K around and drive!!!!" But as I get older, I dont like NOT being in control of a boat, especially a fast one.

Huh? Your thread title is "how not to turn a stepped bottom" but instead of critiquing with facts you state that it seems like the boat was going to get loose? Did it get loose or not? The thread title is totally misleading. Totally seems like bashing to me.

Id like to critique the Go Pro footage.. put a damn cover on it to kill the wind noise!!

ckin62 12-23-2014 09:05 AM

That 39' has been popping up a lot lately (videos and pics). I should have went to look at it when it was for sale! Was not crazy about the xr drives if I remember correctly. Anyways I likey!

I am not the bashing type, just looking for information. I will be deleting the thread once I figure out how to do this.

Simple then, If you want to turn the way Tres teaches to turn your boat, take his class and find out how and why instead of attempting to do it on the backs of others, The boat on the video was not your boat, not the same length, width, weight, power, bottom etc. Trying to figure out how and why to turn that boat off the a short video and biased discussion on the internet, then trying to put that to use on your boat with passengers is why they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I agreee 100%. Maybe the OP didn't meant to be bashing, but it sure comes across that way to me too. Then everyone else jumps on the band wagon. I also know the Driver here, not only has he owned many OL's, I think he owned 3 at one time, 2 for sure and lives in Florida. What I am getting at is he has ALOT of time in these boats running much faster speeds than this video.
To the OP, you sound like someone who needs some training or experiece before you post stuff like this. In your latter post you are concerned about turning at 30-40mph, that shouldn't be concern in any boat. I am not trying to be a hater, just pointing out the obvious

SB 12-23-2014 09:38 AM

Schweet boat !

formula223 12-23-2014 09:59 AM
