Not knowing FPC was for profit, this makes all the sense in the world.

FPC is a business, business = profit. That is what America is all about, pick and chose your way to enjoy life at its fullest.

I am so grateful to everyone who said nice things here about us and Florida Powerboat Club.

We do work very hard to make boating in Florida a little easier and a lot more fun! The event fees help to pay our staff of graphic artists, photographers, office personnel, editors, drivers, writers, and models. The event fee also goes toward helicopters, shirts, hats, bags, decals, captains kit materials, breakfast, lunch, dinner functions, prizes (Ford Mustang Convertable in Key West), trophies, insurance and charities. (there are more expenses but that is the quick list)

We do give extensively to charities too. For example, the Emerald Coast Poker Run in August raised about $150,000 which is distributed to local childrens charities in the Destin / Ft Walton Beach area. Over the last 20 years the event has raised about $1,000,000 for those charities.

The members of the Florida Powerboat Club are some of the nicest people you will ever meet! If you have a million dollar MTI or a classic Cigarette, no one judges you or your boat. Everyone on the events are there to have a good time, and we do!

If you have a question about the club, membership, events, or anything else - please feel welcome to call me. I am happy to talk with you and help you in any way that I can.

^^^^^ This is an excerpt from a previous forum that FPC posted this in.
1. What editors as they have stop sending me the magazine and said they could not afford to produce it any longer.
2. These are the things they say the fees pay:shirts, hats, bags, decals, captains kit materials, breakfast, lunch, dinner functions, prizes (which I will say I did get the t-shirt, the back was a plastic wal-mart type bag lol, no hat or captains kit.)
3.They stated they give away a Ford Mustang, now we all know this is a donated vehicle in exchange for sponsorship and also a charitable tax write off for the dealership.
4. If this is a for profit business how do they say above that they donated all the money to charities?

Just a couple of questions I have?

Bob, well put & you keep proving yourself to be a class act! One of these days I need to do one of your runs.
Some say that you started FMO to have lower price fun runs, to compete against poker runs when in reality you are just offering an alternative. You know better than anybody what Stu and some of these other promoters put into to a poker run. I couldn't even imagine the logistics of the Key West Poker Run or1000 Islands how it was 10 years ago. All those arrangements and "A" type personalities... no thank you!
I have done all types of poker & fun runs and each one is great in its own way. Tickfaw was a blast last year (even though it cost me $30k in blown motors and transfer case in my truck! LOL) but I also love the AAA features of the Vinoy and Atlantic City. Each has its own cool and fun.

That ugly "P" word keeps popping up. Damn that word!!

We should just delete the "P" word from this country and substitute with "socialism".

That will fix it all right?

I have done more poker runs for fpc then I can remember. I think of it as if I was going on vacation some where and how much I would spend about the same 3000.00 between every thing . the real cost is when something breaks on the boat.

You guys are all capitalists, right? I feel safe in making that assumption.

So then ... I struggle with the question.

You can always vote with your wallet. That is your ultimate power as a consumer. If something seems too expensive for the value it provides, don't buy it. Poker run, bar of soap, beer at a ballgame, it doesn't matter.

There are a lot of things I'd like to do that I can't afford. More than I can count. But I don't blame the price. There are a lot things I can afford but don't think they're worth the price. So I don't buy them. Neither makes me an economic genius. Just realistic.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have never paid for a poker run. I cover them, which is "work" for me and I've covered a lot of them. I appreciate my good fortune. Still, the simple points I'm making are valid.

I am by no means taking sides and I 100% think that any business owners have the right to make money but, the original question was, "Why is Florida Powerboat Clubs Poker Run Fees so high?"

The simple answer is because FPC is a for profit business.

If you take their profit off the top, it will most likely put their runs in line with most of the charity runs that are done around the country.

I've attended several events in both a 30' & 32' boat over 4-5 yrs. Stu & his entire staff have provided me w/ more than satisfactory support & professionalism no matter how many questions I asked via calls or e-mails. I think those that have nice hardware, post here alot, whose boats are well known as well as attend FPC events year after year most likely have established stronger & closer relationships w/ FPC but I'm pretty sure everyone's money is green so a $750 entry is a $750 entry.
We are doing Emerald Coast in a 30' Formula.
